Rear end bounces when tires spin?

Hey, I was at the track with drag radials on my car, and when I went up to warm up the tires and the rear end bounced around like crazy… is there some kind of stablizer kit I can get? 1992 240sx…hoping to hear from someone who has had this problem!?!

Thanks Guys!

Calvin

what kinda suspension u got?

could be shocks are blown. Was it just weel hop? If so, there are subframe collers you guy buy that help get rid of wheel hop. Talk to “Shift_sr20det (Adam).” He knows of good ones.

Andrew.

I have stock suspension in the rear

well that is your problem, I can almost positively tell you that you struts are shot or on there way.

Lots of cars wheel hop when you have sticky tires. Doesn’t mean your suspension is gone. The RX-8 does it, even a new Mazda3 will do it. Just means the tires haven’t quite broken loose, and they’re not quite sticking.

What do these collars do anyways?

The collars (or subframe spacers) preload your rear subframe.

If you look at your rear subframe, the 4 crucial points where the subframe
hooksup to your main frame there is a gap. Normally there is a rubber
bushing there but overtime it wears out and doesn’t do much.

The collars just close the gap to prevent the subframe from moving up
and down (which is wheelhop).

The collars stiffen up the worn subframe bushings by squishing them down

This usually helps eliminate wheel hop

Thank you Captain Echo.

But anywho, if you are cheap, what you can do is go to a hardware store
and buy a bunch of washers (I figure what diameter/size you need).

Stack the washers together and put them where you normally put the
collars/spacers. Should make for a cheap mod.

I want to try out these subframe collars where can I pick them up…do I have to go to a preformance shop or can I just go to like part source or ct??? and do they have them for specific vehicals or do I have to take the measurments?

Thanks for everybodys help??

Shops like www.splparts.com or www.phase2motortrend.com carry them

Gonad, you posted while I was typing, eat me.

Thanks guys, hey by chance does anybody have just one top and bottom subframe bushing?? just curious be cause if I could get my hands on just one or get dimensions I could make my own.

I have the PDM subframe spacers. I have it only on the bottom for both
front and back of the subframe. Seems to be effective and working good.

any chance someone has a set of subframe spacers that are accesable for measuring???

The smaller one can have a slit so it can slide in easily on the upper parts of the subframe.

I did these a while back but forgot to post the pic somewhere.

Thanks alot I’m gonna try those out!

The diagram I posted is for the PDM subframe spacers. They are not the
collars.

The collars are pretty much half those (in a way) and you put two on
either end of the subframe bolt.

The PDM ones are polyurethane. They are only meant to be used on
either the top or bottom.

Depending on how you use them, you can do it for more traction,
performance or drifting.

I’ve had it on all around performance setting and it’s fine.

but they will fix the wheel hop??

Yes.
