Rear Tweeters?

Hey everyone

i have a set of tweeters to install but i already have some in the car. They are cheap ebay ones with “built in crossovers” but the ones in the car already do make it sound lots better. They look like this:

not the ideal placement i know but it does make a difference

now i want to install another set in back, where the seatbelts come out, and have them deflect off the rear quarter glass, this also seems to take a load off the speakers so it sounds cleaner when i crank it up

anyone do this or have any thoughts??

The system is a 10" sub with 220W amp, front speakers are JBL or something and back ones are rockford fosgate…im not so stereo literate…

thanks

You’re gonna have a really weird sound stage if you have your front tweeters so close together and the rear so far apart. Personally, I don’t think the rear tweeters will make much of a difference in the sound you’re gonna get, but if you already have them, you might as well put them in. Best thing to do, is to relocate your current tweeters (I reccomend the top corner of the door, near the dash)

top corner of the door near the dash…so you have to like cut a hole in it then right…i suppose it would be an easy job otherwise to hook them up, and i would have to try and find my old cubby-hole thing

what about putting the other set closer like maybe just ahead of the rear quarter glass up high?

really i COULD put them anywhere

If you have them on the B pillar, it’s going to sound really harsh… you will have both sets of tweeters closer to your ears than the woofers.

I would first and most imporantly move those ones you have in the front to where you menioned on the doors. I have mine there are there is plenty of treble… I keep it at -4 to even things out. There really is no position you can mount speakers in the back to have the treble sound right… I would leave them out. Just install the mid-bass speakers, since they are not directional, and you will get some more sound pressure.

Yup, door is pure sex. You can cut the hole with almost anything. I used a kitchen knife  I wouldn’t reccomend you cutting it with it still on. Take off the door skin for sure. Also, mark out what you’re gonna cut on the side of the door skin that isn’t exposed, before you cut. Less chance of… f’ups lol. Also a wicked way to do it (I didn’t think of this at the time) cut out a piece of cardboard and fit it inside your doorskin, then mark a circle on that, take it off then cut. Now you can use that as a pattern to draw your circle on both doors so that they’re in the identical location. Or you could just eyeball it like I did

im liking the door idea now that everyone is telling me to put them there cause apparently tweets dont belong in the console…but how do you make them stay flush…like what do you attach them to in the actual door??

I have my tweeters on the plastic triangular piece that backs the side view mirrors.

This way you do not have to cut a gaping hole in your door skin. all you need is a tiny hole to feed the speaker wire through the trim piece…

I agree that the rear tweeters will be rather useless.

rear tweeters are ghey,

it is possible to have a centre channel in a car that works effectively but you should have a devoted centre channel cross over to work out the nuances.

ideally you want the tweeters as far away form you as possible in the car, and since the drivers side will always be closer it will always be a little off, almost undetectably though. thus time alignment processors.

take ur cheap rear eaby tweeters and hammer them into pulp and throw them in the garbage. unless you are watching a movie there should be no highs coming from the rear.

since when does anyone have their back turned to a performance?

u want to put ur self front centre of the stage, as if you are standing and watching a performance, putting tweets in the rear will mess u up

well gang…i know the consensus is that the rear tweeters will be rather useless

but there are a lot of things on my car that are “rather useless”, for instance, the engine is rather useless, the air conditioning is almost completely useless, and my favorite, the ABS is somewhat useless as well.

so in keeping with the general uselessness of my car (though i do love her still and she just needs a tune up is all)

im going to install those rear tweets and move the front ones to the doors

ill let you all know how it sounds…Its a freebie thing too, so what ever!

If you bought tweeters worth buying, they’d come with a mounting kit.

So let me get this straight… you come here asking advice, and absolutely everyone told you that rear tweets are a dumb idea, but you had already made up your mind and are going to use them anyways…

Whatever. I wont waste typing next time.

nope i just wanted some opinions

whether or not everyone thinks its a dumb idea is irrelevant…it cant make it sound any WORSE and its free

maybe it will sound good, who knows.

awesome

Yea, tweeters should come with some kind of mounting kit, but I’m pretty sure you can get something from Home Depot to make it work if you don’t. Or you could be a Volkswagen owner and do it with duct tape

anyhow it sounds great

i can turn it up even louder than before now and it sounds nice and clean…it was a bit tricky to tune it properly at first but i have it set up nice now…definitely an improvement…sounds very bright and clean

good bass too although i need new RCA cables

anyhow give it a try…the tweets were like $10 and took an hour
