I wasn’t going to post this information up but since ive been the butt of jnj jokes and constant put downs ive decided to finally stick up for myself. I don’t realy post up much or advertise however 80% of my tuning has been done with hp tuners. Ive done a few silverados, 3 lsx swapped cars, couple firebirds, g8, ctsv, and even had to correct the tune on a dodge viper.
This first graph that im about to post is the one that’s nearest and dearest to me. Bill the owner of elma automotive has relied on jnj speed shop for his tuning needs and since its in house it makes complete sense. however after his engine blew up last year and a couple transmissions blowing up after and 3-4months of “tuning” he decided to bite the bullet and bring his transam to me. Luckily the pcm wasn’t locked (jnj locks all pcms so you have nowhere else to go) and I was able to work my magic. right away with the surging idle and extremely rich mixture I knew this thing needed help. After first pull on my dyno it was evident that this car would not last a 1/4mi pass without blowing up again. extremely lean up top and extremely rich down low. base numbers were somewhere in the mid to low 400hp range I believe. baseline gragh will be posted when I can find it but it wasn’t pretty.
after a few pulls and about 4-5hours on the dyno she was running like a champ. adjusted the transmission shift points and fixed some pressures and first pass out bill managed to run low 7’s in the 1/8mile.
to give you an idea how bad the base tune was here is a screen shot of my ve table vs his.

Im not even going to post up the timing table but it was not pretty. I know he would love to get his hands on that as well for obvious reasons. lol
video will be added later.
Here we have subject number 2. 2010 ctsv
again as you can see the vehicle came to me with a very bad tune that was claimed to be “safe” to beat on. yet another overly rich tune in the 9’s afr and about 8deg of timing. lol
baseline from the jnj speedshop
final tune after I fixed the ve table and timing issues.
Here is yet another fine specimen coming out of the jnj speedshop. carls dodge viper tuned on sct.
jnj final tune
after I had to start from scratch to fix all the issues and extremely incorrect timing and a fresh set of plugs.
videos and more graphs to come. running outta time right now.
It’s about time John stood up for himself. The dude goes out of his way and does good work for a cheap price and I’ve seen it first hand he works with people with scheduling and gets back to people at all hours of the day. I’d have no problem letting John work on anything I own.
Looks like a huge improvement in all cases. My big cam only LS1 needs to get re-tuned. It runs way to rich when cold and not a lot better when warmed up. Might need to make a trip to Buffalo in the spring. Nice Job.
John is a great guy. Always puts others needs and wants in front of his own. His work is always top notch. And prices have been good. I make sure when I need work done past my ability to go to him.
Thank you guys, it really does mean a lot. I’ve stayed quiet long enough and I know who my friends are. Everything else is just cancer and im cutting it off.
im all set up man, ill give it a shot. I cant promise my dyno will be accurate as far as hp numbers go without the wheeler having a 1:1 gear however I can promise you before and after gains and that’s whats realy important. people tend to forget that when they get all caught up in peak numbers.
Always had good experiences with John, he tuned my honda and it’s been trouble free for 2+ years (including auto x). Also had him do some welding on two downpipes, he made himself available and had good prices.
I’ve sent John a bunch of cars to get dyno’d and tuned that have been waiting for real / final tunes for a long time.
Including the CTSV,Viper and other cars. John has also spent a good amount of time on my Tundra. Most of them i drive on a regular basis. So i can vouch 1st hand for the tunes, the power they make, the track times they run.
I personally love it when i hear people say you were on the dream weaver dyno. The ones i hear it from non stop are just smoking crack.
Im at the track twice a week as alot of other members see me there. Dyno #'s are great for but track #'s are it. I see to many dyno queen cars, not enough track times.
Any car that has seen Johns dyno from my end has also backed it up on the street/track.
John will soon begin tuning and working on a syclone and lsx 944 once i finish up what needs to be done to them at my shop body work wise.
I have a bunch of pics and vids i have to dig off my old phone and my other computer to post up in this thread.
Great work John! I’m laughing my ass off here about that CTS-V car making peak power on the jnj tune at 444@5800rpm, then falling off of a cliff. You tweaked it and it peaks at 603 at 6100 and still pulls clean to 64-6500. Looks like peak torque with captain jackstands was around 498 or so. You got it up around 640.
That would be like going from a V-6 Mustang into a Shelby GT500. LMAO!
John tuned my car back in May. I had a bunch of other stuff wrong under the hood (massively high idle, TPS wired wrong, etc); instead of telling me to come back with a dyno-ready car, he took the time to fix the issues before getting started tuning. We gained probably 40+whp with the tune alone on a bone stock motor. Car drives great and I’m happy with it. He got a hold of me a few days ago offering to re-tune my car as he thought there was room for improvement on the low speed/driveability portion. I will definitely be taking my POS back to him over the winter.
