Recommend me a 46" LCD

Im in the market for a new tv but dont know whats what when it comes to TVs. Ive always liked Sony and Samsung TV’s that Ive seen but not sure if they are the best bang for the buck. So please recommend me a TV in the <$1200 range.

Jesus fucking christ, do a god damned search.

Good luck getting a 46" LCD for $1200.

Sony/Samsung/LG are great LCD’s.

Samsung/Panasonic make great plasmas.

Don’t base your research/decisions on contrast ratios. There is no standard for them, so manufacturer’s can pretty much just make this specification up.

780p vs 1080p…do a search. TV’s under 50" in size, you won’t be able to tell a difference anyways. 720p is cheaper, and since you’re already trying to find an impossible TV, you might as well look for 720’s.

Plasma’s tend to have better black levels, and colors. No more burn in/ghosting and anti-glare technology really make them the clear choice when it comes to buying a TV. Plus you can get a decent 46" for about $1500.

People here have a cum fest when it comes to Vizio’s. I personally would never own one, unless it was for my 65 year old mother, or my 12 year old son. Best bang for your buck is going to be a Vizio. Stay away from Dynex, Westinghouse and Insignia.

Some people are fine with Sanyo/Sharp/RCA. Again, I’m personally not. However, I’m also not trying to buy a 46" LCD for less than $1200. These may be you’re only option, based solely on your budget.

Figure out whether you’re going to want to go with LCD or Plasma. Use the information above to make a decision and go to the fucking store and buy something. Ask the guy working at CC or Best Buy. It’s their job and they’re informative and pretty knowledgable.

The truth is, if you’re asking this question and really have no idea what you’re getting yourself into…don’t turn this into a big deal. You probably won’t tell the difference between two TV’s and are mainly a price motivated buyer. So go to the store, see what they have and buy. Don’t kill yourself over something you obviously know nothing about. When it comes down to it, they are all going to look decent and do what you’re going to need them to do.

I’m not posting anymore in this thread. Anymore questions can be directed to:

I finally just bought a 46" Sony w series with 120hz at BestBuy.
They had the best local prices hands down.
Rosa’s had good prices but ZERO inventory so they lost my sale.(I hope they read this)

I will only buy Sony but, that’s just me.

Here is a cheap samsung 46" lcd

Because Rosa’s is on nyspeed, and they care.:picard:

You like to overpay? Weird.

SAMSUNG 750… DONE!

LG 47" 70 Series.

Best Buy?
High Markup + Sales Tax + Haggling = teh suck

Whatever, I paid $1550.

I have a Sanyo. It’s on sale at walmart for like $800. It’s mad nice.

Alright, I’ll bump this instead of creating a new post

I’m in the market for a superb 42" or 46" 120hz LCD TV.

I currently have a $200 27" 4:3 KONKA brand TV. Laugh all you want but it has lasted me 5 years! It’s time to get my HDTV and make it count. I was loving the looks of the Sony TV’s at around $1,800 and said “that’s acceptable” but looking here I saw a few other models that people recommended. I had a DVD with scrolling scenery and tested 60hz vs. 120hz and the Sony did it crisply, clearly and didn’t make my head hurt! All of the other TVs I tried it on were choppy and the image was blurry. I was amazed how great 120hz is… and wished the 240hz TV was cheaper than $3,500!

Anyways…

I know nothing about HDTV programming, and the “features” between the other sets mentioned in this thread make me shrug my shoulders. I have a basic crappy DVD player and red/white/yellow cables for everything. I don’t have a PS3 or XBOX360 (Only a wii) and my stereo is also red/white/yellow cables from a 20+ year old receiver which is awesome. I was going to pull the trigger and just buy the Sony but since I don’t know what options to look for or even why I’d spend that much when the other two mentioned are a couple of hundred less, please help me. What TV would you choose?

The TV I was looking at most was the Sony Bravia 46" KDL46WL140. This link makes me say “yes, that looks awesome” but I figured I’d post here and ask first  Here’s the Sony I found: http://www.agoraquest.com/viewtopic.php?forum=35&topic=33683

EDIT: Apparently the KDL46WL140 has something called Internet Link and is the SAME TV as a cheaper KDL46W4100. Only difference is that link thing. I can’t imagine why I need to hook my TV up to the internet… details/info? Anyone have it? There is a $300 difference in price between the two! If I don’t need an internet option, why spend the extra for the same TV

EDIT AGAIN: I have been reading reviews and user/professional reviews and saw the LN46A750 is also a great choice. It has better image but lesser blacks apparently . It gets better reviews though from CNET reviews. sigh the decisions are mind boggling!

240HZ just came out so good luck and IMO it’s a waste of $$. Stick with 120 and get a good refresh rate.

That scrolling screen is just a sales gimick. The best thing to do is go look at a wall of tv’s at best buy or sears. The eyes don’t lie so find the brand that has the best pictures and shop that brand online for the best prices.
