^^^ great idea!
Ok Jack,
So you’re on the your motorcycle which stops on a dime to beat that shortened yellow light. What happens when the redneck in the lifted truck behind you rams you when his truck cannot stop in the same distance? You will trust other drivers to stop in time?
Smoked visor and hard to read license plate ftw. Sorry red light cameras!
Jack, judging by you opinions, you must not drive in the city often.
I’m glad I don’t have any business in the city other than school which won’t even have these, seems like a total waste and everyone is just gonna get pissy and upset either way.
It’s really unfortunate, there are many great restaurants and bars in the city.
Thank god I am moving out of the city.
Anyone who didn’t think this was going to happen is really blind to the city and state even. Its a money source for an already poor and broke city. I am sure the state gets a percentage of this the entire time they are installed.
Thanks NYS, for continuing to provide me with ample reason to leave this shithole state once I’ve taken advantage of all your educational system has to offer.
When I lived in LA - They had these set up all over the place.
On my car i have these pretty nice license plate covers that actually block the camera from getting a picture - probably not by design but at least by mistake. The plastic shines when you shine a light on it - and the flashes on them were very bright.
I easily blew like 6 lights - and got tagged each time.
Never got one ticket.
So you could roll the dice and try plate covers.
As someone who both woks and lives in the city, the biggest problem I see is this. The lights in the city (except for Oak and Elm) are not timed which is annoying as all hell. During rush hours, it is not uncommon to see cars backed up through intersections…do they all get tickets because they spent an entire light cycle sitting idle in the intersection? Also it does not matter how careful of a driver you are, people hate getting caught at 3-4 redlights in a row, so there is a lot of tailgating to try and beat the lights. If people were all of the sudden start hitting the brakes on yellows, there will be more rear end collisions.
I also hope this applys for all the busses, cops, and other govt vehicles that never stop for red lights.
I hope they make a list of each intersection that is going to receive a redlight camera.
I’m just going to re-route around these.
then these people should get tickets for blocking the box, which really annoys me
How in the world are you going to accomplish that?
“In a perfect world…”
They typically take a series of photos of your car and the light to show the sequence. Additionally, more sophisticated systems also have radar guns and will monitor variations in speed between green/yellow/red.
If it fucked up and shot you on a green, it’d be pretty easy to tell.
At least in GA, they are all labeled. A list of them won’t be that hard to come by.
The intersections that get the lights in Atlanta are the ones that have the issues with high volumes of traffic attempting to turn left for exactly that reason, restore order to the intersection.
I’m fairly sure there are plenty of valid studies out there showing the negative impact from RLCs, I’ve seen them on TV several times. They generate revenue, pure and simple.
Sure, running a redlight is illegal and you can’t really argue with that, but there are plenty of negative consequences that are associated with them.
Oh, I thought they just take a little clip of your plate…with a shitty little camera with no detail
Not really arguing against that picture ^^
I honestly could care less about the cameras… yeah I think it’s unnecessary, as we have police that can take car of that, but what worries me, and everyone else, is, creeping totalitarianism.
Photoshop the light green and send it back to them
Maybe a dumb question but how do these things take pictures of your plates at night or in bad weather? It doesn’t seem that there is some ultra high technology going on in these cameras and you might be able to distort the image enough to fight it.
GPS companies can also make a fortune selling services that update you when approaching a red light camera intersection. Future iPhone app FTW
The idea is that with dwindling police forces these days, removing duties like this allows them to focus on more important things, like harassing kids.
