Redtop head on blacktop block - good or no good?

Hello guys, have a quick question: someone is selling the blacktop (the newer one, with variable timing), on which the head is in rough cond. He also has a good head from redtop. Can I just mount the head on this block, or it’s not the best idea? Are they exactly same or the block for the redtop is somewhat different?

im assuming your talking about an S14 blacktop i dont think the S13 blacktop has VVT, and im pretty sure itll work you just wont have VVT

what kind of head gasket then should I install, redtops have different gaskets, someone told me… Just to make sure oil and coolant paths match…

im pretty sure redtop and black top S13 SRs use the same head (one just has cooling fins on the head) as for S14 SRs i have no idea if its a bit different than S13 SRs im assuming it is different< i could check my S14 SR with some S13 SR headgaskets i have in my garage when i go home to be sure

It’s actually s14 blacktop, and the gaskets are somewhat different, as far as I know.

Nope. Blacktop S13 SR’s on top of having the cooling fins, they’re a higher flowing head design and other upgraded components in general from factory. Redtops < Blacktops, S14 and S15 variants are different as well. Your better off getting the same head replaced.
