So about a month ago I pulled the battery from my car and dumped all the old acid/water out of it. Then I filled it back up with distilled water and put it on a trickle charger for about 300-400 hours. Pulled it off last night and plugged it into the car, brand new again!
Just an idea for guys with conventional batteries that are getting weak so you don’t have to buy a new battery, you just have to spend like 4 bucks on some water. You could also try boiling the battery to knock an junk off the cells but that can be dangerous. If you want to do that pull your vent plugs off the top, put it on high charge for a half hour get the charge way up there (like 15 volts) then unplug the charger and let it sit for like 10-15 minutes. then unhook the charger (this is to avoid a chance of explosion) then do the water replace and 300-400 hour trickle charge.
I dont know if that just adding water would be a good idea. I think you would want to add a acid pack also. Im not too sure about the p[rice on them but a battery shop will have them and there is diffrent amounts for the sixe of battery. But I am suprised that it still worked. I wonder how long it will hold a good charge that you just added water but i donno I am not an expert on this stuff :S
Yeah this was the first time that I tried it. I was told be some of the mechanics I worked with that it works wonders. I think thats why you have to leave it on the charger for so long so it has enough time to convert the water to a good acid level.
yes, but it fries the plates, it created the acid from the plates thus it wont charge as well and possibly a risk to safety. Also NEVER ADD ACID! it causes explosions, truthful.
Try not to kill yourselves but interesting
Ummm water can’t turn into sulfuric acid. Unless you are a magic master.
If you dumped the old acid/water out you need to add new water/acid combination. There are alot of batteries that come dry charged. (charged but no acid/water) To these you add the acid/water mixture. But good luck finding somewhere where you can buy the fluid.
BUT if you battery i just low on the water/acid ONLY add water. This is needed because water evaporated but the acid does not.
If it is working it is just because the water you added mixed with some residue and is enough of an electrolyte to let the voltage pass through it from plate to plate. But on the first cold day you will be stranded.
Oh and any competent mechanic that told you this is pulling your chain.

I didn’t understand exactly how it worked but it did. MY battery was very weak to begin with so I tried this figuring what the hell. Now when I start the car it seems as though it has twice the cranking amps that it used to. Now how is that supposed to happen when it got its acid content from mere residue on the plates? If what your saying was true then wouldn’t the battery barely be able turn the car over? I’m going to start the car again tonight to see if it weak again or not.
