remember the good'ol days....

I went through cycles. I have always had a “fast” car since I was 20. Sometimes I was into it and sometimes not. I am now looking forward at 45 to getting rid of my “fast” car by May. I don’t plan on buying anything this time. I have my beater and my bike. I’ll focus on some bills for a change. We’ll see just how long I can last without picking something up.

I really think if I follow through on the tentative S2000 plan this spring, it will silence a lot of my automotive desires. It’ll be nice to have a new, great performing car, right out of the box.

please you know BDR will find you some cherry and you will be all over it

I absolutely agree with you on this 100%. We all had good times for sure…

Ugh yea, skunk and I were reminicsing on those days…including when he tried to burn the place down by getting a paper airplane stuck in the BTC sign…

I was going to suggest consulting some of the elders. Butch has already chimed in but ask Xander, Rick, Spencer, etc. And for that matter any vw guy :stuck_out_tongue:

i miss those days as well, like joe said its kinda ironic because at that point i had a bone stock 240sx, but the “crowd” was so much better back then

very good point.

haha, i do this all the time… i think i hate cars, but always wind up back…

that said, i was never really into hanging out with you nyspeed fggts.

john if you put it aside it will turn out like my ef ddi just sitting for 5 years and selling for next to nothing … you are starting a fam you have a house now… once the baby is out you will see … “a man becomes a father the day his child is born” (quote of Kendrick)…

really you will see what im talking about soon

im done with that game really… i like to spend money on my kids and see how happy they get when they see i did something for them… the cars will be there when they get older …

live for now

I’m in a similar situation turbo civ. My Mustang is still in storage, and I have no desire or intentions of taking it out. Rather than sell the car, I decided to put it away and spend my time working on a project for my dad ('55 Chevy) to keep me busy. Like you, I enjoy having projects to keep me busy, and I was fortunate that my dad had a car to work on.

I bought my Mustang 12 years ago when I was 16. I pretty much swore to myself that I would never sell it after hearing my old man ramble all the time about “if I only still had that car…” That’s really the only reason why I still have it.

Obviously from all the posts made, you and I aren’t alone in thinking that the car scene was better back in the day. While I wasn’t around in Buffalo then, it was my life when I was living in Minnesota, so I know the story…

Sadly I’m a youngin’ and these will be my good’ol days…

I’d try taking steps to cutting back first. Maybe take the e36 off the road so you don’t pay the insurance & gas on it. Track only car? The e30 is more than enough all year round as a fun DD.

Ah yeah things definately change, personally im not sure what my plans are with the supra. I have had it for a long time now, and normally wouldnt think of selling it but it is worth a good chunk of change. I could pay off my house or use toward some other better investment. I built it back when all I wanted was a single turbo monster to drive on the street. Now I really dont enjoy driving the car as much because it is a chore to drive on the street. I have been chipping away at it lately to make in more manageable on the street and will probably just continue with that.

My real interest now is lapping events, which I can use the supra for but I really rather build something soley for that purpose.

do you have a daily driver right now?

Good old days = being broke just out of college making shit money nothing in the bank no house and debt. What was so good about it? :stuck_out_tongue:

you would think he has a DD

Haha I’m in the process of selling/scraping all of my vw bullshit. It just wasn’t fun working on old garbage all the time so I bought a nice new DD and plan on paying off all my debt before I even bother with another project car.

i remember the loop runs. nothing like staying out all night running the loop. i was the youngest back then.

All the NA swapped hatches

priorities sure do change, that’s for sure.

i think people, in general, spend way too much time lamenting over what used to be or what could be in the future. a big part of being happy is identifying what your priorities are and then finding the right balance.

for example, it was a very difficult decision for me to sell my gsx 3 years ago. i had just built the motor, it was finally shaping up the way i wanted it, but i had gone into debt to build it, and had just started a new professional job. so, i decided to sell it, knowing that wiping the debt slate clean, putting some money in the bank, and starting to save for retirement and investing were my top priorities. since then, i have been going through withdrawl.

since then i have bought a house, got married, switched jobs once, put together a nice nest egg, and started investing. about 6 months ago, i decided that i was either going to buy an s2000 and turbo it, or buy a bike and be happy. after weighing the pros and cons, i decided that buying a used bike outright would be way better than financing a used car and then modding it.

i feel like i am in equalibrium now. i enjoy the bike, it is fast enough, provides me with lots of enjoyment, and isnt a money pit. plus, i am still investing, saving, and looking forward.

life is just about balance. balance is different for everyone. you have to decide what is important, why it is important to you, and then make it happen.

good luck.
