Yah me and a buddy of mine were just discussing this topic. I thought the it didnt go though and of course he thought other wise. Well after some googling we found this.
I was just on the site awhile ago since some people at work were wondering the same thing. One of the things I heard I think off the post-gazette was since the Port Authority is having the “T” cross over to the North side. In a few years they might try to figure out a way to expand that out to the airport. I dunno which route they plan on going, but I could see the “T” being alot cheaper than the maglev.
I think we’re paying around 400-450 million dollars for that stupid tunnel to the North Side. What a waste of money. They could have used that money to extend it out to Monroeville where it’s really needed instead of building a stupid-ass tunnel.
True but the train runs on practically nothing. In the long run it *should end up paying for itself. Not to mention it should reduce HELLA traffic on the roads. Monroville to the airport in 6 mins! 3 mins to downtown from Monroeville. 310mph max.
They should worry throwing two more lanes onto 376 and whatnot. Maybe widening the Sq. Hill tunnels so dipshits don’t slam on their brakes thinking they won’t fit??
I built a madlev train at Steel Center Vo-Tech in high school. It was fucking badass.
Pittsburgh needs a complete redesign of the road system. You can’t have major roads like 279/376/28 all meet up directly in the middle of the city, it’s just fucking stupid. No matter how many lanes you have it will continue to be a clusterfuck. And the belt system we have is truely a work of art.
If this city actually turns itself around and starts attracting people to it instead of people leaving by the thousands, we are all fucked as far as traffic goes.
By strict definition a “pork barrel project” is any project which uses federal dollars to fund an essentially local issue; congressmen and senators are notorious for “pork” before “pork” keeps them in office. Of couse you’re going to vote for the guy who funded your new highways that lightened traffic, gave you more cops, built a new hospital, ect. On the flipside, pork is highly criticized at the national level because just as obviously, you don’t want your tax dollars funding the new highways, more cops, and new hospital over in New Mexico.
