Removing Crankshaft Pulley bolt

hey guys,

I have a quick question for you…How do I remove my crankshaft pulley. For the pulley itself I know I will need a puller tool…but my question is really for removing the 27mm bolt itself.

When I try to loosen the 27mm bolt it spins the crank…it must be something I am overlooking? Is there a special tool to use…I have heard an Impact wrench but I can’t fit mine in there as the engine is in the car…maybe I have to remove the fan and shrout?

put car in first. e-brake and lock the wheels. Usually does it. If not, take out rad, fan, condenser etc etc

Just did this. Do the following, Find a 3ft or longer breaker bar, put an extension on it and make it 6 ft long, put your car in 5th gear, put your ebrake on all the way and put blocks of wood behind and infront of both back wheels, and your golden.

impact gun…

5th gear is key.

Yep, 5th gear for turning the crank bolt, and 1st gear for preventing roll-back when parking on an incline.

or do what toyota calls for in the 1UZFE pulley bolt removal procedure, and put a breaker bar against your strut tower and crank the car over.

They actually make a friggen tool for this shit.

anyways, I did it on a stubborn MA12S Micra engine and it worked a charm. Granted, I’m not sure what the bolt torque was on those things… But I do know this trick will crack a 100 ft lbs bolt loose.

Just not sure how well the flywheel or starter bendix appreciates these types of mc.guyver maneuvers… but when all else fails

That sounds stupid dangerous! lol

LMAO come meet some of my local toyota mechanics u wont think its the idea thats dangerous LOL these guys them selfs are wepons of the automotive industry LMAO !
