Repairing a scratched windshield

Is it possible to repair a scratch in an automotive windshield? I see products out there to do it but I’m wondering if anyone has experience with it or knows if insurance covers this kind of repair under the glass rider.

A small rock chip got stuck in the wiper blade on my Murano and of course the wife didn’t notice until the wiper had etched a fine arched line right in my line of vision. It’s deep enough that I can feel it with a finger nail but not very deep.

Car has full glass coverage so if something were to happen to cause the glass to get worse I could always just get it swapped, but I’d rather stick with the OEM glass instead of risk something screwing up the replacement.

This was the case on my Z. I called my insurance company and they just said they’d replace it. And they did.

I have a chip / crack in mine too. Were you puckering when they were replacing it? Did they do a good job?

I actually wasn’t there when they did the work.

The biggest problem was that I wouldn’t let them install a regular glass window since ours have tinted glass. So they had to look around and find an original Z windshield with amber tinted glass. OEM brand new it was $800+ and they covered it because it’s OEM equipment. They had to ship it from California.

I did have to replace the side trim parts because those just broke when they were taken off.

This is a big deal on a lot of my policies. I specify that certain policies will only replace w/ OEM parts, not just the cheapest they can find. Some companies will openly admit that they do this, but most people don’t pay attention to it when they decide to go with that company.
