Request to see radar

I asked for proof once, No matter how respectful you are that will always drive them nuts. It was the only speeding ticket i have ever gotten bitter about.

About a month ago, I got a speeding ticket on the QEW. The cop showed me the radar gun which still showed 131 on it. He also asked if I had anything to drink. I told him I had 1 beer at the concert in Toronto, even tho I had alot more to drink before the concert. So he took me in his car for a breathalizer. Thats when he showed me the radar. and I blew an “A” on the breathalizer. which was a 12 hour suspension of my license. So I had to go back up there the following day to get it. The cop was pretty nice tho, he wrote the ticket saying I was doing 120. Which is a $95 fine.

But in the states, I never asked to see the radar because everytime I got pulled over and got a ticket for it. I was actually driving that fast.

I used to believe that story about them having to show you the radar if you requested. It’s urban legend. When you think about it, it really doesn’t make sense. Getting out of a car on the side of the highway is extremely unsafe, so there is no way they are going to write a law that has every speeder who thinks he’s going to beat the system running around on the side of the highway.

And intense98rt, to drinking and driving while speeding.

you dont have a right to see the gun, there are no printouts, unless u call the ticket he prints you a printout, however you do have the right to request a supporting deposition, and they have 30 days to comply and send it to you, otherwise the ticket can be dismissed

I thought I’d be fine, I stopped drinking 3 hours before I drove.
and it was either I drive or the other person that was driving pass out behind the wheel.
and who drives 100km/h on the qew?

I guess it would help if I know what BAC an “A” on the test was. Usually when you get an “A” on a test you’ve done well.

But honestly, if I you knew you were drinking, I think a bit closer to 100 would have been a lot better idea. Were you the neon guy who was all happy about getting his NY license back like a year ago? I did a search but couldn’t find the thread.

for future reference, make sure your cruise control is accurate.

:lolsign: We call that pulling a danny heatley

Supporting Depoistion.

Ask when you get to court. that should have the radar gun stuff and the certificate that that cop can operate it.

the print out you have is prolly just the ticket with the infraction and the court date.

I got a ticket in rochester a couple of years ago for doing 72 in a 55. The cop was this mean old dude who was being a tool right from the begining. Told me he would be waiting for me in court to testify against me. I just postponed the cort date each time it came up for just under a year… The cop retired right before I went to court. The judge just let me walk out.

Yea I really didnt know what an “A” was either. But since it was only a 12 hour suspension I figured it was prolly under a .08. and no that wasnt me, I havent gotten a speeding ticket in a couple years. I beleive you are refering to minisrt4 about getting his license back.

I got pulled over once in the exploder with Onyx…and the cop said i was going 60 in a 40…Negative.

When I told him there was no way i was going 20 over he asked me if I was calling him a liar.

I said no sir, but there is no way I was going 20 over the speed limit.

We had barely been underway from RacerX’s house and got stopped less than a mile down the road. You would have to hammer on an explorer to get up to 60mph unknowingly within that distance.

I guess its what we get for going out with beckington aged girls.

after having my caprice for less than a week, i was accused of going 70 in a 45, on camp rd near the 90. total bull shit, if anything i was going waaaay under 45, so my reply was “i dont believe this vehicle is even capable of going 70.” he didnt care wrote the ticket anyways. the only time i’ve even come close to being let go from speeding was by a trooper. he gave me a seat belt ticket instead.

lets see, my last few times getting pulled over…
1)Got pulled over 4 years ago in lewiston and they fucked me in fines for my 2nd ticket ever with being 12 over ,and didn’t know it was a “work zone”
2) pulled over a half mile up the road for a 60 in a 40 and a week before it was a 55, got a windshiled wiper ticket since I drove a gay vw scirocco with 1 wiper arm from europe on it, had it taken to the dealership and got it stamped it was originally on the vw for that year and let go.
3) pulled over in the village of hamburg for my foot slipping off the clutch which it really did(wet sandals sucked) and let go
do about 80-85 to and from work on highway and have yet to be nailed.
did slow down to about 65-70 for the past month though.

finally smartened up

lol I actually got someone pulled over before (someone else could of got clocked instead of you).

I was cruising down 5 past the steel plant, doing about 70 in a 55 and as I was passing a van, I noticed a cop shooting radar and the cop ended up pulling the van over who was clearly doing the speed limit

I felt a little bad, but also had to laugh at it

i’ve never been under the impression that you actually had the right to see the radar gun or a printout, although i’m sure some cops would show you the reading if they were in the mood to be reasonable.

that being said, they really have no reason to LIE about you speeding, b/c they don’t get you, (if you’re really not speeding) they’ll just get the next person coming down the road.

so you said you were trying to set your cruise at 75… ok… so you were speeding??? and cruise can easily be a few MPH off either way. so go to court, tell the judge you were hovering between 70-75, and pay the reduced fine for 10 over instead of for 16 over.

I thought when you get pulled over for speeding you could request to see a printout from the radar gun or something?

I got stopped for speeding this past weekend on my way back to buffalo and the cop was a complete dickhead. Right away he told me he clocked me at 81 which is BS because i was trying to set my cruise control at 75 when i saw him on the side of the road.

But when i asked if there was a printout or something i could see because i was confident i wasn’t doing 81 he said “So are you trying to imply that i’m incompetent with my radar gun or just calling me a liar?, you will get all the evidence you need when i testify against you in court”

This shocked me since i was nothing but polite and he turned all hostile to me.

Just wondering if i should have been able to request something there at the scene or not?
