It’s pretty loud in there though and the dining space is small.
Got the Rib Eye - Bone In, Pittsburgh Style, rare… pic here… watch for size reference.
They give you lots of bread, amuse bouche, olives, cheese and pepp plate so after the apps, when the steak comes you can’t possibly eat it all.
I brought what i didnt eat home, cut it into like 5 massive pieces and my wife and i split it for lunch today… it was still awesome… and…
I still have the equivalent to a whole steak for dinner left for… dinner
I’m continually impressed with some of the eateries in Buffalo. I think the US in general just has awesome restaurants. There is definitely nothing as good as Tempo or Buffalo Chop House from Hamilton to Niagara…
Was very Impressed with Russel’s when we went there a few weeks ago. Great Filet and the service was top notch. We always went to Kennedy’s cove but will probably go here from now on.
The place is located on Elmwood, where Merlin’s used to be. The REALLY cleaned/brightened the place up. Hardwood flooring throughout and a nice cozy atmosphere.
It is in the gastro-pub category so the beer list is quite extensive, and the menu generally consists of really well done bar fare. I Went there a few weeks ago with the lady and cannot wait to go back.
We started with the Duck Frites (Fresh cut french fries done in duck fat), we were able to choose 2 dipping sauces out of about 10 available. I recommend the cayenne-honey aioli! For the main course I had the french dip which was amazing, the beef was extremely flavorful and tender, it really melted in my mouth! The gf had their Blue burger, which was equally as good.
The pricing wasn’t too bad, the fries were ~$5, and each sandwich about $9. Beers weren’t that bad either, coming in around $5/pint. I think our total with 3 beers each was somewhere around $60 which is not bad at all.
The wife and I went there for our last anniversary and the prime rib was excellent. And the french onion soup was the best I’ve ever had, and that’s something I order almost any time we go some place nice.
The Red Osier (Stafford, NY near Batavia) is another one for great prime rib. The Red Osier cut damn near killed me. The ambiance leaves a lot to be desired though.
Copa Cabana Niagara falls, right up the street from the fallsview. Best Brazilian steak house around, if you don’t leave there with the meat sweats, something wrong with you.
I know it’s not a big deal, but compared to driving <20 minutes to go anywhere in WNY it’s a pain. Still definitely going to the Brazilian steak place soon.
I am hitting this place up next time, some buddies and I were going to go a few weeks ago but hit up some place right at the village instead, I forget what it’s called.
Didn’t see this thread originally, but would like to second this on Dino. This has been pretty much the saving grace of my life since moving from Buffalo to Syracuse. I have yet to eat at the NYC location but I’m sure it’s right on par with the other two. I eat there like once a month.
I also loved Tempo the one and only time I went there last Christmas. Took my fiancee there after proposing and had just a great dinner experience there.
I wasn’t that impressed when I went to Dino here in Syracuse, maybe I just went on an off day. Tempo however is fucking awesome, always have a good meal when I go there but I’m a little biased.
So the gf and I have been fumbling ideas of where we would like to go for dinner for our anniversary. I’ve had people tell me different places to go and such and really need help deciding. I never go to “nice” restaurants- our bill is usually 30-40 bucks for the two of us (Think Coles, bullfeathers, Panos, etc.) so we want to go somewhere more upscale for the occasion.
Guidelines:
about 25-35 dollar plates
No Italian
Good ambiance (I don’t want some slob eating his dinner on my shoulder, I don’t want to hear other people’s conversations because I’m so close to them).
And of course good food
Suggestions already:
Shamus- one of my favorite places that I’ve only been to once
Oliver’s
Daniels in hamburg
The Roycroft
Anything else? Please help. If nothing jumps out to me from others experiences than ill just throw the top three in a hat and pick.
