RHD Updated Insurance List 2012!

Hey Guys, I know this has been mentioned before in previous years. We need a new list of who IS insuring right hand drives in Ontario, because I don’t know about other members with RHD cars, I’m scared as F*CK that when my renewal hits( October 31,2012) I’m going to be screwed !!!

Thanks Guys!

That’s not for another year, their policies are always changing so it won’t make sense for you to stress about it now. Just prepare for the worst. I drive a 180SX, and mine just got renewed this month, but I am tryin to expect the worse in about a year, just in case.

PS. No one is gonna randomly start spitting out who’s insuring them. They tend to like to keep things like that to themselves. You’re better off going with trial and error by searching for yourself.

Man, I’ve been searching since Nov 20,2011. and haven’t been able to find anyone. I will pay someone $50 if they help me find a company that will insure my car for reasonable pricing.

Seriously…

15+ year old cars can be insured by Silver Wheels as a recreational vehicle.
Conditions: It has to be a second “insured” vehicle to you, You have to be 25+, You have to have a fairly clean driving record, You have to get a one time apprasal on your car ($100 - $300), They will insure RHD.
I pay $295/year on my '96 LHD 240, apprasal is 15k and its 350whp. (dont tell them the hp but do tell them what engine you are running during apprasal).

^^

All that is right except the 25+ bit. It’s not an age limit, it’s a driving years limit. They require 10 years continuous driving experience (from your G2).

And like Jordan said: if you have more than a couple minor convictions or a major conviction, you can pretty much forget about Silver Wheels coverage.

And if your RHD is your daily driver and your only car, this insurance is not an option.

Sure is sweet payin 25 bucks a month though

I can’t wait. Car is now 15 years old and I just have to wait till march for my 10 years driving experience.

Gunna be nice to have the car fully, legally insured.

has to be 10 years with a full G license not G2 talked to them yesterday…brrutal

is there limit to the amount of kms that can be put on it in a year, seeing as it’s a “recreational vehicle”? I can only imagine that means it can be driven to car shows, or meets, etc., but not driven as a daily throughout the summer, for example.

When I applied they told me G2. They probably changed that to G by now.

And , yes, recreational means you can’t drive it every day to work, to school everyday, to the mall to do your shopping, etc etc

There’s no mileage restriction but basically you are supposed to drive the car for “recreational” purposes.

just make a silvia out of a s14 lhd problem solved

I have an R32 though lol looking for legit insurance boys!

I believe it is only age. No driving years. I went through the quoting process. My only problem was you can’t daily the car, max 3500km.

http://www.rightdrive.ca/news/view/178 almost 2 years old but might still work

I have to go through my parents name, but not everyone has dope parents. Both my 180’s are $70 a month.
I had insurance through my own name for the 180 and it was $450 a month, $50 more then my 240.

Been shopping around for insurance for the Datsun. Got to be 25+ (Some companies) or have the 10 years with G (Silver) to not get raped.

Check this one out. Its what I went through quoting with. Same general idea but a little more flexible

I checked it out and it looks pretty good, but I was told that “…at this time we do not have a market that covers right hard drive imports.”
