I had no problems insuring my 180. Biggest issue I had was with the woman at the MTO telling me I needed letters from two licensed mechanics verifying the VIN# on my car was the same as on the ownership. Got the letters, then she said it had to be DEALER mechanics because they have access to run the VIN#. I explained it’s a Japanese VIN so they wouldn’t be able to run it, but she did not care. At any rate, got ONE letter from a dealership (guy came out, looked at the VIN#, then the ownership, then complimented me on the car, typed up a letter and I was out of there), went to a different MTO office and everything was fine. No need for two letters.
And fortunately, I haven’t had any problems with the police.
been only driving RHD for a week or so, had one cop follow me for a bit but nothing happened. Lots of weird looks… had one old lady walk by me on the side walk and almost had a heart attack when she saw no one in the left seat, that was funny because she let out a big OMG! But switch from LHD to RHD on a daily basis f’s me up

Every vehicle that is equipped with a right hand drive shall, unless it is equipped with a mechanical or electrical signal device as described in subsection 142 (6), have prominently displayed on the rear thereof, in bold face letters of not less than 50 millimetres in height and of a colour which is in contrast to that of the vehicle, the words,
“RIGHT HAND DRIVE VEHICLE”.
and the following is from the section it refers to, section 142 subsection 6:
Requirements for signalling device
A mechanical or electrical signal device shall clearly indicate the intention to turn, shall be visible and understandable during day-time and night-time from the front and from the rear of the vehicle for a distance of 30 metres, and shall be self-illuminated when used at any time from one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise. R.S.O. 1990, c. H.8, s. 142 (6).
now i could be wrong but does this mean u can run your rhd car with out signal lights providing you put a sticker and put a running light over it?
i just dont like the attention from the general public. at first i felt like a baller, now its fukn annoying. every light i stop at or everytime i go into a store people approaching me and harassing me about my car.
i think that the mto and police should all f@$#$ off, i had a cop tell me my car ( rhd silvia) isnt fit for the road, i had my import slip, insurance,registration , etest and safety in my glove box, with pics of the car as it was comming of the container, he still says my car isnt fit, i said them y does the registration say pas, he looks at me in shock, i tokld him i work for an importer, and we have our cars inspected in vancouver as soon as they land by customs and mto, and if they say this car is fit and meets the requirements for the road, WHO DE HELL IS YOU, the cop looks at me like im crazy, i said i need ur badge # and division, he says why, im not giving u a ticket, i said ur harassing me and waisting my time, u should be doing ur job by dealing with iddiots like da fool who just passed by in the corvette doing about double the speed limit, but no u cops would do that, ur afraid the guy may be a rich SOB lawyer and he will sue u and ur division, so that y u guys prey on us the import guys, because u this were 1 stupid, and are afraid to STAND UP FOR OUR RIGHTS, another reason my car hasent been driven much this summer and its up for sale
