ROFL @ Mazda and rotary motors

Why? Aside from having something “different” what’s the benefit?

Hmm, and how many people here who have attempted to mod their piston engines, add forced induction, etc have blown up? I can think of quite a few. The vast majority of people I know with blown up rotaries have been MODDED (and especially turboed) rotaries. An N/A rotary is not really ALL THAT BAD from a reliabilty standpoint, but it does require more care than the average joe provides their engines.

At least Mazda Motorsports will sell you a brand new replacement motor for cheap, if you aren’t under warranty.

drive one. the powerband in a rotary is super smooth, and its very predictable when you get hard on the gas even with 400+ whp. i’m not saying its the greatest motor ever, but at the same time it shouldn’t be tossed to the side and overlooked

ding ding ding this guy gets it! thanks brett

I want a rotary just because I love the look of the FC and I had a white FD rip by my house and it sounded…insane.

seriously…look how many cars are always broken on this website…

fuck im drunk.

but id still rock a rotary.

FD for the mother fucking win.

pwer per liter is fucking rediculous.

hehe jay you’re so funny

less wieght…less moving parts…small displacement big power type of thing…the simplicity of the general idea of the motor is a great concept…just needs to be fine tunned…plus they just sound bad ass

even though if you follow the rules to find the displacement of a piston engine you find that all rotory engines are actually double the displacement that they are stated to be, so in reality they power per liter is in normal trends

^^^ yeah that

a rotary is more like a 2 stroke engine as far as cycle similarities. It has more combustion cycles per crankshaft rotation.

2.6 L

p.s. swap in teh elll esss juan

Well, as the only RX-8 owner posting in here so far, I’ve been reading up on the 43 page thread at www.RX8Club.com ,http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?t=97039&page=24&pp=15

The recall will go out next week on the 28th, they will be checked for vacuum. If the vacuum is good, all RX8s will recieve a flash to increase the output of the oil metering pump. Since climate isn’t that big of an issue I don’t think I have a problem. Rotary owners shouldn’t use synthetic anyways… But until you drive one and experience the smoothness at 9,000 rpms, don’t hate

i still find it funny that people are defending mazda when this is the second major problem that they have had with the RX-8, remember the under power debacle

:word: people sayyyy 1.3 litre rx7s…but…theyre 2.6 from what i remember

The rotary motor is cool and def has benefits when it’s running right, but it is fair to say that the fine tuning of the motor isn’t there yet. Maybe down the road it will become a reliable, easy to work on motor, but we dont know that for sure yet. Down the road with more R&D, they might prove to be the best motors around, but it’s not even near that point yet. I dont really understand what we’re defending here?

back to RX-7’s for a sec…
From my understanding the rx-7 motors needed to be tuned from the factory?
The seals have to be replaced on the motor at the 50k-60k range?
poor gas mileage and lack or torque are also an issue.
That leaves room for improvement…(dont kill me yet Jay)

However, there is great potential with these motors when you put new seals on and tune them! I think Jays’ car is a fine example of that. For most of us on here, we mod our cars and when we do they become more unreliable, so every car has it’s issues. Then again, this issue with the rx8 is involving a stock NA car. On that point, what are people really defending in this thread? Mazda is willing to replace motors…car manufacturers dont do that unless something is REALLY messed up :gotme:

^Exactly.

Although it may result from a “small design flaw”… it’s still a DESIGN FLAW in a ROCK STOCK OEM PERFORMANCE ENGINE.

People were all over the fact that Bimmer’s ///M Motors grenaded from the factory…
People were all over the fact that the C6 roofs came “unglued”…

This is no different.

correct.

and I like every one of those cars

come on man, don’t hate on the tq.-less wonders.

i dont have torque either :frowning:

cars can run well without it though
