$32? how? Lowest I ever paid for DirecTV was $50 (probably added cost for DVR) and that only lasted for part of the contract. The price went up and up as the incentives ran out over time and by the end of the 2 year contract I was at more than $100/month.
They really bait you in on the incentives that expire halfway through the contract. I averaged out the monthly cost over the 2 year period and it was ~$65/month for 24 months. I’m at about $15-20 for netflix and hulu.

yes it’s a hub for those services. I already had Amazon Prime for the shipping (I actually almost never watch Amazon Prime videos though). Netflix and Hulu need a subscription.
Those of you that are using TW $14.99 internet… What hardware do you have and how is the resolution? My wife just now decided to drop our internet to that rate, get rid of the DVR and go with channels 2-20 with a basic box along with phone (which we don’t even have a fucking phone. We’ve always just had cell phones). Our bill is now going to be $45 a month and she’s talking about going with Sling TV at some point too.
I put a Roku in at my mom’s house so she could watch netflix on her TV. The interface seemed really simple and I didn’t want to get stuck taking tech support phone calls from her. She’s had it over a year and works great. Best of all I haven’t had any “it’s not working, what do I do” phone calls.
got my dad a roku 3, at the time a couple years ago, they didn’t even have access to HBO GO, it was worthless, supposedly thats changed - we returned it and got him an Apple TV.
I have an Apple TV in living room and chrome cast in bedroom…IMO AppleTV is the best solution - especially if you’re normal human being and have an iPhone/iPad.
The chromecast, has worked in the past, but overall is absolute dogshit. it works like every 5x i try to use it.
You have to find it in your wifi settings on your phone to use it, and most of the times it doesn’t even show up, its a piece of garbage.
Yeah so we did get a promo rate for the first year we are on that rate. Also we did get $100 in visa gift cards for signing a two year plan. We also have a $10 AAA Member discounted rate at work. It will be $22 per month when I get the referral bucks when my brother activates his.
I think it goes up to like 50 after the deals all expire, I will just call them and negotiate at that point.
LOL… Let us know how negotiating a rate reduction after year 1 goes when you signed a 2 year contract.
You have the power to negotiate a better rate when your contract has expired because they know you can just bail for another company. One year into two they have you locked in and know it will cost you a lot to break the contract and leave.
Directv is funny the way they suck you in … average out the per month cost and it’s not as cheap as you think… Not terribly high, but in line with the rest of the industry. I’ll stick with my sub-$20 setup.
This is precisely why they WILL negotiate with you, in contract or otherwise. They know collections is a dead end and will try and keep SOME of your money every month, rather than nothing. Of course you have better leverage if you’re outside the contract but…you can pull something off if you’re good at hustling.
I pay for the higher speed TW internet, I think $60 per month. That covers 2 ipads, 2 phones and the TV running without a glitch. I may be able to scale back but I have not wanted to try. We use and XBox One and a chromecast tied to a projector to watch the majority of our usage. The kids use the ipads. We subscribe to Netflix and Hulu, and have access to the Time Warner App in exchange for our netflix with a family member. We also get Amazon Prime but that is my last go to when watching. I do have a 4TB cloud drive but I have not set it up to start pulling down shows as there is already so much content to watch. I primarily use hulu and watch shows that have ended their run from top to bottom. My wife hates that so she watches netflix and anything that I specifically download for her.
If you’re ok with piracy usenet is still the way to go. Usenet+sabnzb+couchpotato+sickbeard = automated 1080p movie downloads and automated TV show downloads in 720 or 1080 depending on the network. Once it’s setup it’s like a pirate DVR where you toss it a show and 1-2 hours after it airs it just appears in XMBC. Proper HD blueray rips usually show up 1-3 weeks before the blueray is released. $100/yr for unlimited usenet from newshosting.comhttp://www.usenetadvantage.net/top-10-best-usenet-special-offers.php
reading this thread has made me realize how much i have no idea what is going on in the tv world.
i currently have nothing. i think i watched 2 movies on dvd in the last 2 months, and a couple street outlaws shows at a friends. i’ve tried watching a couple shows i like online but they said i needed to log in with my cable provider. been going out to eat on game nights to watch some of the nhl playoffs here and there.
i have no idea what this roku firestick or anything is. lol.
Pray they don’t stop providing guide data for Win7/Win8
All kidding aside I was going to try an get a MythTV server up and running on my old Core2Duo system, problem with that though is MythTV requires CCI flag zero. Which is fine for Verizon since the only channels they set CCI flags on is premiums but if I ever wanted to switch back to TWC it will be problematic since they use CCI flags quite a bit from what I understand.
I called the friendly folk at TWC and was told the 14.99 Internet doesn’t support WiFi. I’m not sure if this is true or they want me to just keep paying the 44 a month?
Turns out our VIZIO tv has many of these features shared by these units. Probably not worth getting one. I just downloaded a bunch of the same apps. Will add a Hulu subscription and call it a day.
