You just need to buy a wireless router and you’re good to go. FYI your bill will be $21 after taxes and equipment charge. You can get a decent router for $30-40.
They might be referring to their cable modems they provide with Wifi, typically they only offer them on the higher tier speeds. You can get your own router for pretty cheap with WIFI.
I’d say buy a Motorola combo modem/router/wireless AP and save the equipment charge every month. Pays for itself.
This is my budget recommendation.

It is still cheaper to buy a budget router and separate cable modem.
I would get a Moto/Arris SB6121 (69.99) plus the router I linked. It will pay for itself in 8 months (the cable modem that is), Time Warner charges a 8 dollar a month lease fee for their equipment.
TP Link are garbage IMO, I’d never buy another one in my life. I also hold a grudge against Netgear home level routers. “Budget” router/AP’s…you get what you pay for.
Don’t do it. Don’t believe them either. Get your own router as others have said.
We switched to the $14.99 per month internet and I immediately switched it back. I did a speed test and It was barely 1 down. With us streaming to two tvs at the same time, it wasn’t going to work.
I have had zero issues with mine and I know many others with them that have zero issues.
I have a TP Link WDR3600 and haven’t had any issues…
I’d only be using Netflix on one TV and wireless for cell phones
One thing I didn’t see mentioned is a Smart TV. These are coming down in price and are already preloaded with apps that will allow you to watch Tv right through them, without the need for a separate box. I bought a 4k HD Smart Tv and it was preloaded with Plex, Netflix, and a boatload of other apps. Some require you to pay, but you can upgrade your TV and get the ability to use these apps all in one shot.
Now that I have fios I am looking to sell my Motorola wifi modem that I used with TW. PM me if interested
The list of companies you have issues with is probably longer than the list of companies I’ve dealt with.
TP-Link here too, TL-WR1043ND R, and it runs like a champ. Evane was the one who suggested it years ago actually. It was perfectly fine stock but now I’m running DD-WRT because I wanted some advanced routing features.
Smart TV’s are nice in idea but most have very poor implementations. I still feel you are better off with something like a Roku.
I don’t know how often Roku pushes code updates(which I assume is often) but I assume it would suck to wait on some Vizio specific build of apps.
So Time warner just offered me a cheap basic cable package for $19 per month with Starz.
The catch is this, $1.50 per month to rent the cisco digital adapter, and $5.50 per month for “Line maintenance”.
Plus tax or whatever.
So that 19 dollar rate basically doubles if you put it on two TV’s.
A one use a slingbox? We live under a rock and have zero TV, and I was thinking of getting one and putting it at my fathers house and getting a roku for our house…
They work well as long as you have a decent internet connection. Just keep in mind you’d wand to put the Slingbox on a TV your father would not be using since you would be taking over whatever TV it is on.
Awesome. Thanks for the response. I think they make one what works over wifi. It’ll go on a tv that hasn’t been on in about five years
ive been super happy with slingtv for a few months now, except for last night with the walking dead. every other channel worked except for AMC. really ground my gears. must have been overloaded.
watched the 11 pm replay so all became right with the world.
check it out, for $25 its got a pretty good line up.
and all streaming devices are wifi these days
Someone talk to me about this evil that is Kodi. :snky:
