Roletta T6 with Subaru, what's your thoughts?

So I’m at that point where I need to do the oil change for the first time on the 06 WRX. The previous owner and I know a lot of other WRX and Legacy GT owners user Rotella T6 synthetic oil.

What are your thoughts with this oil.
It is 5w40 synthetic “extreme Temperature Heavy duty” oil.
I purchased the OEM filters as I have no problem with that.

Do you run this oil?
Have you had problems with it?

I see “diesel” on the container and it just throws me off every time I look at it.

I ran T6 5w40 in my e36 M3… It seemed to really quite the valves down… it also has a european certification that most other oils (that u can find at wal mart) don’t have.

ps. It’s Rotella, not Roletta.

Yeah, not sure how I messed up the spelling on the title. Thanks.

I’ve heard it’s good for the common bearing problems in the Subaru’s.

Also picked it up at Napa, which right now is selling for $19.99 there when usually $28

Edit: any chance a mod can correct the title?

I run this exact brand and weight in my turbo gsr engine. I have been really happy with it

I ran it in my m3’s as well as my 996tt

Its all I ran in my 05 wrx and so did the previous owner.

That’s all I run in my bike, walmart had the 1 gallon for $20 and $5 mail in rebate, so I stocked up.

Thanks for the feedback. We will see how it continues to work.

I run in everything except for my E30 that needs heavier weight. not a bad thing to say about it.

I run the same stuff in my boat (which is basically a Chevy 350 engine).

heard good things about rotella 5w40…i personally prefer mobil1 0w40

Wet clutch?

Yep, switched oil at 100 miles and shifts smoother and quieter. It went up 4 mpg right away. I watch the forums and I’m getting atleast 5 more mpg than other people, 50mpg, hard starts, wheelies and 90% city/country roads.

hrmmm, interesting.

It’s the “go to” oil recommended on all of the forums. I’ve always ran it.

Some people have slight issues with it not engaging 1st to 2nd. Once in a while mine will miss 2nd if it’s real hot (210-220°), but it might not be the oil causing it. It won’t make your clutch slip if that’s what you’re worried about. A lot of myths going around about full synthetic in motorcycles and it’s always the people that don’t use it. You can change out Rotella T6 twice as much and still be cheaper than other synthetic brands, but you don’t have to cause it’s just as good. I can’t find the link, but they tested all the oil and i think it was in the top 4.

It’s going to blow up anyway. Might as well put water in it.

I run it in all my cars.

it is a great oil. Has anyone ever ran a “bad” oil and actually had a problem with it? I had a saturn and ran the used oil from my buddy for 15K. It had a broken valve so it ran on 3 cylinders and burned oil like crazy so I refused to put new oil in it. I have still never had a oil related failure on any engine I have ever run with one exception on a road course where a car ran low on oil.

has anyone ever ran a oil that caused a failure?

i run the Rotella T6 TW40 in my wife’s B7 A4 as well as my 09 OBXT and am very happy with it.
