Rust Repair

Hey guys. I’ve had my car for 2 years now and the small surface rust is starting to get worse.
I found my winshield cracked this morning and I suspect its the windshield bumping raw metal. I plan on changing the outer seal around the windshield. I was wondering about the actual rust itself.
How should I go about fixing it? As the pictures show, I’ve also got some rust on the passenger rocker panel. Is this a DIY job or should I take it in? Can i just sand it down and bondo or shoudl I get it rewelded?
Time’s not an issue, i’ll spend hours if needed.

ouch man i could do it, but if you don’t have any idea how its done, its not a DIY for you… send it to a shop IMO

Welding metal is always better than bondo.

That rust is in some pretty shitty locations :frowning:

Fender one is where a weld has been made. Even if you sand it down it will re-rust over time it will start again at the source (where the two metals are bonded). Best to get it cut out and a new piece welded in. Shouldn’t hit the pocket THAT hard.

The roof stuff really sucks. There is no way to properly repair that without taking the windshield off. You could ask a bodyshop about the cost but I’m not sure if it would be worth the $$$. You could try sanding it down and using some fiberglass filler to build it back up but I’m not sure how long it would last … not very perhaps!

You are from NJ or scarborough ? I am from NJ too living in Markham now.

Hey buddy, where in NJ you from? I’m from Scarborough but go to Rutgers. So I’m here for June thru August. If you need me to bring anything up during the school year I’m always coming home.

one thing i learned

by time you can see surface rust on something that isnt solid, ie your rockerpanel…its too late. Its probably rotten to hell inside

get it cut out
