Its been a long while since I have posted in this forum so ill start by saying Hey!
I miss my s13. I love my wrx. I can’t have both as I already have a beater.
I have put a lot of time into my wrx and tried to make it fill my gap where my 240 used to be. Its been a fantastic car and I love it for most of what it is.
My wrx is rwd with a 4.44 rear end in it along with a long list of other mods. Its handles amazing and gets sideways easier than I had antipated.
I am now at a point where I don’t know if I should continue to keep spending money on my wrx or if I should give it up and get back into an s13.
I’m just looking for opinions, feedback if you like but mostly just opinions. (Everything I have done to the wrx is 100% reversable so didn’t wreck an amazing awd machine just fyi)
What do you mainly use your car for? if its just for some spirited driving here and there… id keep the WRX but if your into completely building a “Drift” car and tracking it id get a 240 (cheaper to fix and maintain)
But if i were you id keep the WRX, its newer, im assuming more comfortable to drive and in better shape than any 20 year old nissan that has most likely been hacked together by some “tuner” at one point or another.
Keep the WRX, it’s more comfortable, better ergonomics, better gas mileage, and a newer car. I love the handling and modability of the 240 but from a daily driving standpoint the WRX is WAY better.

Oh and I forgot, rust. You’re WRX is probably still free of it. Good luck finding a clean chassis without going south of the border.
I really want to start drifting, and I don’t think the wrx will be practical for this. If I nail a wall in an s13 no harm done, with the wrx that’s going to cost me. I am not really interested in trading for a built car but thanks.
Neither of these cars will be a daily driver I already mentioned I have a civic for that.
Also kouki, I bet your Ls3 is better on gas than my subaru with the 444 in it. Gas mileage is way worse in this than it was in my sr but gas mileage is also not a factor in deciding.
For the price I paid for my wrx I could have built a 240 ground up so that’s why I’m leaning that direction, start with the rust and work my way up from there. I finally have my own garage I can do this in so I’m really on the fence.
Drifting is my goal, and I’ve only ever done it in parking lots so I would say I have 0 experiance and treat myself as such.
Well in my eyes seems like u have ur mind made up. The only suggestion i can say is if you go s chassis buy a jdm one as the rust is very little and would be better suited starting point instead of a complete tear down and chasing rust around. The price of jdm s13’s has become more affordable now.
Room mate just sold his Subi for an s14. He’s never been happier. They’re too expensive in general. To have fun, to maintain, to make fast…
Everything for a 240 is so cheap (correlated), and readily available. Don’t listen to s13counterpart, he’s not looking at it from your side of the fence. Sure a 350 would be fun, but can you imagine drifting in of those? It wouldn’t feel right. Drifting is too careless of a sport for such a properly designed car. I didn’t mind cutting bits and pieces out of my s13 and welding them back in. I cannot begin to image doing that to a 350. Some would say it’s a lack in self confidence, but to me that car is just too nice to be changed.
Have YOU ever owned a WRX? My '08 got 26mpg (city/hwy), better than my EVO X, better than my V8 S13 and better than my brother’s SR S14 can muster.
I dont know what half ass tuned Subaru you were driving but if you set those cars up right then they actually get very good mileage. Yeah slap a turbo on them and they will suck gas but so does every other car.
I won’t comment on the average wrx, but my 06 as it sits right now gets an average of 13L / 100km with a protune. Don’t turn my civil discussion into flame wars about who gets better mileage this isn’t about gas mileage or comfort factor. Where as rust is a concern that I will be taking into account with my decision.
Keep your future job in mind. Are you going into business, which future clients or other business owners will have to sit in your car, or help make you look more professional? If so, I can guarantee they would rather sit in, and see a WRX then an old S13.
well ive been on the forums for a few yrs now and one thing ive noticed is everyone that sells their s chassis always or most of the time ends up regretting it and ends up getting another farther down the road…me personally a few yrs back i thought about selling my car as well but theres just something about the driving dynamics of these cars that ended up making me change my mind and ended up keeping it. honestly from what i can tell and what boost-hungry said it does seem like you have your mind pretty much made up
Your right about the fact that I have (for the most part) made up my mind. I wanted to see what others thoughts were and discuss reasons to or not to get back into the s chassis.
I appreciate everyone’s feedback, and will be taking it all into consideration in my decision. For now I will have some fun with my wrx this winter and maybe look into selling it this coming summer.
Until then my eyes will be peeled for at least a half decent chassis for a reasonable price, because we all know there is no “clean chassis for 2,000 dollars” out there.
The one that my dad and I picked up 2 years ago for 3,200 was the one i wish he never had of sold, and i ran into the kid who bought it and winter drove it. I offered him 5k on the spot and he wouldn’t take it. So mad at my dad for ever selling it but whats done is done.
there are still clean and very well maintained s13s around but they arent easy to find and the people that have them know what they are worth and arent going to be cheap…but just think it over weigh your thoughts and options… financially wise its not really worth selling a relatively new car to buy a 20 or almost 20yr old car, but for the sheer driving pleasure thats something you have to think over and decide for yourself
This all depends on the business. I’ve had professionals in my s13 and they loved it. We spent the whole time talking about the car and almost no business. On the other hand most of us by now who have professional jobs have a second vehicle. I have a nice toyota suv if I need to take a couple people out.
Either way don’t make your choice around what other people will think of your car. My friend ditched his s2k for a bmw 5 series and can’t stand the thing, its a nice car but its just not enough fun.
