Hey im thinking of switching s14 from auto to 5spd. the car is a 1996 240sx (made in 95) Now my question is since the chassis/drivetrain for the S14 and S13 are more or less the same could I just swap a full s13 tranny setup into a s14 and have it run well? Could I use most of the s13 parts and use some small s14 oriented parts for the set up. I ask this because im finding it very hard to find a 5spd tranny for a s14. So if you could tell me which s13 parts i could use in combination with s14 parts to make the swap work it would be greatly appreciated.
I found this and was wondering if this is the only thing different http://www.son240sx.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21760&highlight=s14+transmission
I also found this and it mentions s13 into s14 swap but then SHIFT_KA24DET says yes no to parts just wondering if he means those are s13 specific parts that wont work in a s14 or not.
I’ve been told its all good except the clutch pedal assembly needs to be spaced out from the firewall (ala spacers if using S13) and the speed sensor is calibrated differently…
I see so what your saying is I can use everything for the swap from an s13 but the speed sensor? I dont exactly know what you mean the clutch assembly needing to be spaced out from the firewall. any help would be appreciated. and also the link you sent is that using all s13 parts or just s14 parts or a mix of the two?
you can use the S13 tranny, but you won’t have that one hole on top of the bellhousing for one sensor… the ECU will throw a code…
You can also use the S13:
-Master Cylinder
-Slave Cylinder
-stock hardline (if you can find it)
-clutch, pressure plate, flywheel
-all tranny sensors
You must get the S14:
-tranny speed sensor (195 bucks from nissan!)
-96 5-speed ECU (you could use the auto one, but your car might stall when you first start it up… only happened a few times to me)
-5-speed driveshaft from an ABS or non-ABS car (depending what you got). Not a single S13 driveshaft will fit your S14, simply because the wheelbase on the S14 is a bit longer than the S13.
As far as the clutch pedal goes, get a proper S14 one… that includes the clutch pedal bracket
