safc tuning sr, coughing above 5g and lean decel

just got my car out, has a jim wolf tune ecu for redtop sr with z32maf and 550cc inj. Now running a t28r at 10psi and full turbo back + recirc’d synapse bov. I am using an apexi safc to tune the car a little on the safer side, 14-15 idle 12-13 cruise 10.5-11.5 WOT… I am having an issue with the car burping a little at and above 5k… ngk platinums gapped to .44(correct for my power and boost?) also decel max’s out my aem wideband gauge into the lean (18+afr)… i know its supposed to be lean on decel but thats too lean no? is there any way to fix this?
looking to get a tune this week, if not, need to fix these things… any information would be appreciated… thanks.

That is too rich at WOT and cruise.
Ditch the platnums and get BKR7E, gap to .028
Don’t worry about the decel. It’s fine.

I’m not understanding why its healthy to be that lean under decel… Could you explain that? Ill try those plugs tonight, also I sent you an email regarding a tune… Thanks

On decel, the injectors shut off since there is no load. It is normal for most fuel injected cars.

yes, i understand that… saves fuel mileage… aswell as there being no reason to be adding fuel while deccelerating… but the motor is still running at +18 or more afr… even if i put it in neutral and coast, the car does this, i have read many places that even under decel the motor should not see this much lean… what afr should i be reaching for at cruise and wot?

wowza… gapped new plugs to specs… no stumbling what so ever… allowed me to tune a little more, now making a retarded amount more power… thanks for the advice…

I’m playing around with the BKR8E-IX plugs.
So far, car is liking it.
Car was breaking up with the BKR7E’s after 20 min sessions. I am running a bit more than 10psi though.
That .028 Gap is perfect for most SR’s.

Stupid question but why are you tuning a JWT Tune? Is it that much off on your setup?

What are the numbers on the stock tune like?

This feels like 7 years ago but what are your SAFC setting like? Even JWT tunes are slightly rich under WOT

the car ran great on just the jwt ecu with the t25, garbage fmic, almost stock exhaust, at 14 psi(reason why the turbo ate shit and is now a t28r)… with everything ive dumped in it since owning it, idle and cruise was pretty lean but i havnt touched anything above 5thousand on the safc… still at 0’s… although im at around +35 correction at idle, 28 at 2 gs… 20ish at 3… 12 at 4… 5 at 5… not sure why, but its working so far… im assuming its from the velocity change of the bigger turbo pushing more air… also think it was leaking quite a bit of boost with old intercooler, piping, and plumbing… the one thing i did notice was that previous owner had retarded timing 3-4 degrees from stock spec, instead of using the safc… anyways, the safc is temporary… needed to drive it before summers over…

bkr7e is what i use with 20psi making 420whp

go to dan like i said man

^^ And they are the best for MOST SR setups out there. Are the running the .028 gap Pete?

OP - Why are you throwing so much fuel into the car at low load?
I would probably zero out your settings for now, and check for boost leaks and other such things.
