Well yesterday a few friends and I threw on the new parts I had purchased over the winter. This consisted of an IX turbo, IX diverter valve, tubular manifold, o2 housing, intake, licp, Crower 272’s, new lines, gaskets…etc. We started early Sunday morning and finished her up Sunday night, thanks to psphinx81 for lending me his timing belt tool.
Now I know the Megan mani has a history of cracking… I know this, so please no rants about it. As many Evo owners kind of know, after this year the set up will be different. So this is a temporary setup for this year to give my car some more spunk than last year. Last year my car was just running with a 3in Injen TBE, a Hallman Pro MBC, Walbro 255 and a cone filter with a tune from “Touringbubble” on EvoM.
So I thought I would share photos from yesterday, here you go…
Here is the beginning of the day starting off simple, just took off the spark plug cover. In this picture I believe I’m hunting down socket sizes lol
Coil packs and wires are taken off and the mani bolts are sprayed with PB Blaster.
Here is Big Ian (VRsexy) showing everyone how his nifty L.E.D. hat works, and revealing his questionable stains on his back?
The uicp, diverter valve, MBC and intake is taken off to make some room, someone kept sneaking shockers in my pics.
We took the radiator out for more room. I wouldn’t want to bash my radiator when taking the turbo out.
BAM!, all is out.
Here is the new 9 turbo with a stubborn bolt broken in her. We heated it and tried backing it out, but no luck. So we threw it in a drill press and drilled in out like new.
While that process was going on, Shawn (sbanzer123), Jay (Freebyrd) and myself set her to TDC anddid the cams. This is the only pic I shot of this part for some reason with the stockers still in.
After that, we lubed and assembled the cams, bearings…etc and and cranked her by hand and everything checked out. Were tossed everything back on and I did a mild clean up. NOTE: Random wooden homemade VW symbol??
Finally! The hotside is all set to go. I bolted up all of the new exhaust pieces, gaskets, washers and lines.
Took off the front bumper for the AMS licp pipe to go on, the stock one is seen here.
Once, that was all set, its time to bolt and torque up the new setup. I was so excited!
Fast forward a bit, due to lack of pictures and BAM! Done! Cheapo filter for now, I have to order the K&N filter that is supposed to come with this intake.
Filled her with new fluids and she started right up with no leaks and idled like a charm.
I’ll be email tuning her this week, hopefully all goes well.
