Here’s a weird one, everything with this car is weird.

The car is a 03 ion. The battery is getting a little bit weak, and I wanted to replace it.

It takes a group 75 battery, that needs to be vented.

The battery is in the trunk from the factory, and the factory battery has holes in it that rubber tubes hook up to vent to the outside.

Not one parts store around here carries a battery for this thing, and the dealer wants over 100 bucks for the battery, and of course they need to order it.

Do those Optima batteries need to be vented? I could buy a nice optima battery for the same as a delco oem vented battery.

I have no additional electrical equipment on the car, so i don’t need an optima, I’m just interested in the battery starting the car…

i run into this all the time at my store, you can run an optima 75 series battery. I have called optima and spoke to their techs.

Go figure an economy car takes a 130 dollar battery.

I started at walmart, I was going to “spring” for their 60 dollar titanium or whatever battery

Optimas diehard platinum, any acid free battery does not need a vent… I deal with this atleast once a week. It sucks for those people.

well it is like a german vehicle the battery isn’t vented right to the atmosphere. It is vented through a vac line.

130 bux is not that much when it lasts you 8 years

It’s a bit pricey compared to $50ish batteries that do the same thing and usually last just as long.

right but sulfuric acid venting into the back of your car is not exactly safe

Absolutely, I completely agree. I never knew newer Saturn’s located the battery in the trunk. Definitely weird and probably very annoying especially when you have to pay out the ass for a specific battery.

I laugh telling people with economy cars that they need a battery that is almost more then there car payment
