I remember a thread that a number of people had problems with one or the other, but I cant find it. So which brand of HDD should I be looking for?

One of my drives is a seagate… 4-5 years old, another ones a WD and its like 2 years old, both get hammered with shit
Shady you buy alot of pc stuff, help me find a 2.5" HDD, around $50, thats decent.
Either one will do fine. They are similar enough in quality that outside variables are the killer of each one. Take care of them and you’ll be fine.

Honestly hard drive can be flakey no matter who they go thru
While 90% of the time people are just fine… its acctualy quite ammusing how the life span of a hard drive can be extremely short, and other times it can last 10 years…
I see hard drive failre on the regular and its amazing how random it is.

WD for me. I have allways bought them and havent had to rma one yet. I bought 2 maxtars when compusa was still here and they both shit the bed.

Two WDs here. 80 and 500GB. No problems.
There were some issues with Seagate EXTERNAL HDDs when they first came out. But they apparently fixed it. I’ve had a 1TB Seagate external drive for almost 2yrs now without issue. Seagate also backs them up w/5yr warranty. But any hard drive can fail at anytime. So like everyone else said, it’s really just a matter of opinion. The most important thing with any HDD is backing up your files. Back up your porn!
