Seagate is SHIT

About a month before I left for Korea, I bought a 1TB external hard drive, so that I could load up all the things I wanted, and take them with me to enjoy on my laptop, on the other side of the world. Unfortunately, a week before I came here, the piece of crap died. Yes, it croaked in 3 weeks. I had it rush RMA’d and I got it back a few days before I left, and somehow managed to fit most of the crap onto it again.
Flash forward to now, not even two months later, on the other side of the world. The FUCKING THING DIED AGAIN. The new one that they rushed to me to replace mine.
I don’t know if I can RMA it here, considering that I bought it in Canada and all, but quite frankly, I don’t care. Even if they give it to me for free, I don’t want the piece of crap. Why would I want a drive that will die on me within a matter of two months?
I’m fucking livid right now, this time, at least it’s not fully gone, it’s still working in some incredibly reduced capacity, so I’m going to try and copy some of my stuff onto my laptop over night. I won’t be able to fit shit all though, because my laptop has only a 60GB solid state drive, it’s made for speed not capacity. I’m going to lose a good 400gb worth of shit right now. Oh… Antonio will choke a bitch… He will choke a bitch…

Buy out your stores DVD-R’s and burn away.

dont they make that shit out there ?

DVDRs are NOT the answer, they go bad just as easily as those garbage Seagate drives. I have had about 10 in my life, all 10 died and were returned for Western Digital. I don’t know what Seagate does with their drives, but they fucking suck so much. I have Western Digital drives from 10 years ago that are more reliable then brand new Seagate drives.

/rant.

I have a 180gb iomega external. had it for about a year and a half, and its been fine. i wanted another bigger one too, but i read awful reviews on EVERY manufacturer making drives over 500gb… I don’t think the low end technology has caught up yet.

I got a no name 1TB drive, been good for about 2 years now, although just recently it doesn’t get recognized in Windows XP and tries to crash it when I turn it on… Fine in Leopard though. I think it has two WD 500GB drives in it…

I originally wanted a Seagate 500GB external because they offer a 5-year warranty, but found the 1TB no name for just $20 more on Boxing Day (last one on the shelf, I laughed at the guys behind me). Guess I’m lucky? My dad has a 500GB WD My Book and its given no problems, it’s really quiet too.

i have a LACIE 500gb external. and that thing is TOUGH i can drop it and not even worry. and it has firewire, eSata, USB and a couple other ways i can plug it into my laptop. and my laptops gots 350gb. i have never once had a problem with ether. knock on wood
when it comes to anything don’t cheap out.
edit: i laugh at anyone with only USB. hahahahaha have fun with 20mb/s tops. eSATA is 50mb/s= unreal

eSATA is actually 3gb/s, it is the same speed as internal sata, runs on the same controller.

i am getting no where near 3gb/s i wish i were and i would be interested in seeing how get those speeds

I gave your mom 1TB last night… does that even make sense?

Haha, no, no it doesn’t, but that’s okay
So, the fucking thing works fine today. It stopped dicking around, but I’m still going to replace it, because I’ve never heard of a hard drive that starts messing around like it’s going to die, and then continues on to give years of faithful service. They usually die fully in a day or two.

I have never had a problem with Seagate drives.

Maxtor on the other hand…
