Security Thread - Insight

lol. dont get pissy cause you don’t know when to use seen/saw. :mamoru:

:stuck_out_tongue:

I have a huge dog and a semi-auto shotgun right next to my bed.

To quote Charlie Daniels - “I’m the kinda man who wouldn’t harm a mouse, but if I catch someone breakin’ in my house, I got a 12 gauge shotgun waitin’ on the other side.”

I have boards in all the window frames in the house with 2 thumb locks on each window. Motion sensor lights on the side of the house. Front porch and back patio lights are on every night before sun down. Brinks security system with armed guard that roams my neighborhood in Vegas and responds to any alarm and will also contact the police. We have a small dog that alerts me of any/every noise she ever hears outside haha. Finally, a loaded gun at my bed side.

As for the car… nothing on my Lexus since I have nothing really worth any value in it (no aftermarket stereo, radar detector, GPS, etc). The Cobra is never really parked anywhere.

I agree, keep quiet, don’t show off, and keep to yourself.

I disagree with deadbolts that require a key to unlock BOTH sides. This is a crazy fire hazard. Do you want to be fishing for a key when your house is burning down.

I’ve done a few things, motion lights, leave a car parked in the driveway, steel door with a deadbolt goes into a hall with another deadbolt door.

Glassblock windows, light timers. I don’t have an alarm, honestly I don’t have much to steal.

Also I don’t live in a shitty area, that is probably the best thing you can do.

When I go on vacation, I have old people on the street watching and reporting to me if anything weird is going on. I had the old lady call me and tell me that those energy direct fuckers were on my porch, while I was in Florida, lol.

I don’t have any. I’m not the toughest guy out there by any means, but I can hold my own very well in a fight.

Had these at an expensive apartment in clarence, complained about them and the bitch landlord refused to replace them. I ended up just sticking a permanent spare key in my side of the lock.

And most times, just having the BRINKS sign or window sticker will keep most criminals away.

edit: lol JEG @ getting in fights, therefor not afraid to get mugged. I train extensively in boxing, thai kickboxing, freestyle wrestling, greco wrestling, jiu jitsu and judo, and none of that will mean SHIT if a mugger is either:

a. with a friend or two
b. has a gun

I think walking around thinking you’re un-muggable is a good way to get yourself mugged… as far as self defense goes, common sense and humility will probably get you a lot farther than fight experience.

Wow…looking to get into UFC or something???

I actually take a lot of MMA classes incase I ever need to defend myself or fiance or something, but I definitely realize against anyone armed it’s not so useful. Everything JayS said is basically more useful.

Being defenseless against someone armed is definitely not true… but, again, Im glad to see that your at least an intelligent person in that you know whats “smart” to do. Im gonna assume you train at the training edge… take some krav to spice up your artillery in weapon defense.

Home: Baseball bat(wooden and steel), self defense training.
Car: Alarm, No valuables, wheel locks.

not at training edge, that place is a classless money pit. Krav is great, I’ve read quite a few manuals on it and the disarming tactics are great.

  • for steel baseball bats. I wonder if we can get one of those expandable police batons to carry.

Wow, some of you guys live with a lot of fear. Poor little guys.

My security consists of
-Not living in a shitty area
-Not doing stupid shit like leaving boxes at the curb that advertise my new 8092145098 dollar TV
-Not doing stupid shit like posting on the internet what my security consists of

Besides, to LZ’s point: the only times I’ve ever gotten robbed it was CC # theft. My German Shepherd wasn’t any help there, dumb dog can’t even call customer service. :frowning: I shot my computer with the bank website up at close range with my 12 gauge but they kept using my number.

:mamoru:

Being prepared <> living in fear.

Are you living in fear of a fire because you carry fire insurance?

Are you living in fear of serious injury or death because you carry life insurance?

I realize living in Amherst (and not part of Amherst with section 8 housing) the chances of being the victim of a home invasion robbery are right up there with being struck by lightning.

My belief in a strong home defense is more centered around when the police aren’t going to be able to help you. Take the October Storm and make things a little worse with colder temps and losing fresh water (which we almost did) and things could have turned to chaos very quickly. Ask the people of the lower ninth ward in New Orleans about calling 911 when a serious disaster strikes. When those police response times go from minutes to weeks your happy little utopia stops feeling so safe.

I sometimes don’t even lock my front door. I like to live on the dangerous side.

it’s not rape if you yell “surprise!”

Like that saying “when seconds count, police are minutes away”
