Hi guys,
I will soon be living up in Alliston, where ORF (Ontario Race Fabrication) is located. I wanted to test the waters to see how many people would be interested in paying to use the shop on an hourly basis, and how much they think would be a fair price.
Hamilton has a place and Toronto did and their rates were as follows (correct me if Im wrong)
8-10/hour bay rental
15/hour bay with hoist
The pay for the entire day is also an excellent option as people going to do this will need it for major jobs so they want a discounted rate for long hours.
From what I heard tools were on a loan basis so there was no cost but most of the time you brought your own tools.
I think providing welding service on site would also be beneficial.
Well I’m not sure if I would be interested in renting it for a whole day but I would be interested in renting it for a couple hours … I still have a spot on the floorpan that needs to be cut and re-welded.
$15 sounds more then fair (from my end of the deal) per hour of hoist time. I’d love to be able to pay $15 to get my car up there and weld in a new square.
I think you should also offer to rent out the welder / whatever else per hour as well so people don’t have to lug that crap all the way out there.
PS: I still think we should set up a ghetto paint booth up there!
Paint booths are a bad idea. It’s a good idea to offer one, but they fall under hazardous materials, and you need proper zoning and exhaust.
$$$$$$$
$15/hr is definitely fair. The places in Toronto are sh*t. I’ve never been to the one in Hamilton, but the way most of them work (the ones I’ve been to) is that “normal” tools come with the spot. They also have various wrenches and stuff behind the counter. You have to sign them out, but at no charge (as long as you bring them back to the counter guy clean). “Special” tools, like welders, air tools, etc. are available at a per hour rate.
Now, what we need to do is get 5-6 guys with reliable jobs together and start a nighttime business up doing this! Then we’ll have a SON shop that pays for itself, nice and stocked and completely at our disposal when we need it!.
Also a good place to hang out and set up some accounts with dealers to do some wicked GBs, etc.
Don’t mind me, I’m always trying to capitalize on good ideas - Likely why I’ve got three small businesses running on the side already.
Anyhow, if anyone actually thinks they would be up for sitting down for coffee and talking about this/crunching numbers, PM me!
Honestly that would be awesome. I mean I like the idea of it. Not saying that I want to be one of the 5-6 guys, but I would love to be able to go and “borrow” a shop to work on my car instead of trying to do it in my driveway.
I’ve been thinking about doing something like that for a while now… where you located?[/quote]
I’m in Oakville but commute to north mississauga above the 401 on Dixie to go to work every morning. Anywhere a reasonable drive from home or work would be acceptable for me.
You should PM me and we can talk.
//edit// I just noticed your team mischief sig, aren’t you guys all near niagara? That would suck ;-/
