The first generation b&m’s did rattle but they fixed it for all future production (this was also a couple years ago). I bought one years ago and it doesn’t rattle.
I also agree that it is probably problems with the tranny and not the shifter.
Try running redline MT90 fluid if you aren’t already doing so.
