Shreks boosted GSR Build

Damn I suck at typing.

That small bench will fill up fast with parts.

true, whenever bill comes to parties he likes to drink all of the beer, hes a real asshole like that

Picked up a B16 head the other night from Rochester. I had bought this ITR intake manifold a while ago for my next project. It’s sorta cool to compare them side by side.

I pretty much know Ill need a new head, so I will start getting this ready to go with new value springs (ITR spec).

Yup…

Thats real shitty what happened to the engine, sorry to hear. You are a better man than me, I probably would’ve given up and let it sit for a real long time. Hope you get everything worked out

I finished stripping the block down to the rotating assembly. The cylinder walls really don’t look bad, didn’t see or feel any huge gashes. I also striped the head of everything except for the valve springs. Then I stripped the replacement B16 head down and Im dropping both heads and the block off today after work. Im hoping the block, crank and rods are fine to be reused. I will have the shop give the new head a vale job and replace the seals and swap over the springs. Once they tell me everything is ok I will order pistons and move forward. Im not sure if this was simple part failure or if it was part failure due from excessive heat.

huh… well you have like 6 months to get it going

what are yoy doing with the old head?

Its for sale

thats some good looking head

ur cars a beast to i had no idea haha looking good tho build that head and slap it on there

pm me how much

Yea thanks! And thanks for the killer deal!

Make me an offer. I need cash!

Can some one confirm this for me?

By taking the intake inner and outer springs from a GSR and moving them to the exhaust side, then buying ITR intake springs I will have a full ITR spec valve train right?

This is what I did. I bought 8 inner 14751-P73-J02 and 8 outer 14761-P73-J02 for a ITR and had them installed in the intake side of my GSR. Then I had the springs that were there moved to the exhaust side.

Im trying to figure what went wrong still. Did I over rev the limit of my valve springs? Or was it from leaning out or both. Note: the exhaust side is what gave…

dropped valve for the lose

I’m 90% sure about the GSR inner -> ITR Outer, but its been a while. Portflow used to sell stiffened inner springs, not sure if they do anymore, but thats what I did with mine…ITR outers w/ portflow inners.

What were u revving it out to? Even with a full gsr valvetrain you should’ve been allright to 8.5k…I’ve seen people rev em out to 9k, but who knows.

Post it up on the FI forum on honda-tech and see what ppl have to say. You hardly ever see anyone drop a valve running ITR/CTR cams.

i know turbociv with his vtec went to 9k or 10k ish

9100 - Im looking at replacing the valves and springs.

you don’t really need to replace valves…well you do on that head lol…but stock ITR valves should be fine. If not you have plenty of choices…omni, skunk, portflow, supertech, blah blah

I’m personally biased to portflow or supertech…just get the springs of the same manufacturer. there was also talk back in the day about ti retainers wearing prematurely and causing failures, but i believe they all started using higher grade Titanium so it shouldn’t be an issue anymore…still double check before u buy tho

http://portflow.com/product.htm

on my motor i have .5mm oversized manley valves, but i got a sweet deal from dan from oddy’s, who apparently doesnt work there anymore.

and yeah 9,100 on stock gsr valvetrain = iffy

why’d u rev it out so high? ctr/itr cams stop making power after 8500 anyway

I was running ITR intake springs in the intake side and GSR intake springs in the exhaust side. I thought ITR red line was 9100? Well again my bad for not getting to the dyno and actually finding out where the power stopped. Im going about a few things differently this time around. I think I’m starting to get it…lol

Yup that’s too high for stock gsr valve springs on the exhaust side in a boosted application. Remember that Donovan was NA. It’s a lot easier to control a valve when the cylinder pressure is dramatically lower.

Is there pitting on the domes of the other pistons? If so, swapping the turbo without a retune played a significant role in the failure too.

If I could see the valve seats that would help the diagnosis too, but they can be hard to diagnose from pictures.

Supertech stuff would be fine for what you’re doing. I’d go with their dual springs and ti retainers plus .5mm oversized valves. Inconel on the exhaust side is only a few dollars extra if you want some extra insurance. They’ll take more than black nitrided stainless, but not as much as Ferrea superalloy. If you’re planning on running around 20 psi or less the standard Supertechs are fine. Just make sure all the stems get checked on whichever valves you decide on using.

PMd some pricing.

peak tq 7500
peak hp 8000

stock itr redline 8,400, fuel cut 8,600

:frowning:

35R @ 15psi on my 10:1 83mm… still makes hp to 8500 or so but u can see the tq just dies off after 8k

if ya need help doing anything im also in olean and i happen to know a awesome head guy that will hook ya up call or text me 716 353-6209.I have a turbo ek 4 door
