I stepped on it today a few times, in like 3rd and 4th gear… right around 4000 rpm, the rpm’s would get stuck, and I wouldn’t go anywhere… this is a pretty sure sign my clutch is toast right? and not the posi(limited slip)?
yea if you can gas it up in the rpms and not move, the clutch cant hold anymore. make sure when you get a new clutch to have your flywheel checked
hun???/if the clutch isnt holding RPM’S will rise!
clutches will slip at peak torque levels in your highest gear.
well in this case, my torque reaches peak, and pretty much stays at peak from 2800-4800… which is where its slipping, its definitely my clutch, which I knew would need replacing, I just thought I could get a few months out of it.
the car will not move…thats a goodsign
If your clutch is slipping your rpm’s will fly up and your car will not move faster with the rpm’s.
not always
when a clutch first starts showing signs of slipping it can slip only so slightly that the rpms appear to travel up as normal but in fact they’re going a hair faster than what they should, then the plate heats up from the disk spinning and the system catches up with itself but it hasn’t slipped far enough for the rpms to drop so they hang at a certain point for a couple of seconds. most people odnt’ notice this because it’s kinda subtle, most of the time you dont’ notice a bad clutch till it’s letting loose on you. my guess is jay just caught it because he’s anal about his car (not that that’s a bad thing but if you werne’ tlooking for it you woulndt have seen it) its’ been my experiance this mostly happens when you over power the clamping force of the clutch not so much as a worn clutch system.
Hehe, Im pretty lost I too was wondering how my clutch was holding. Though I wouldnt know a bad clutch from a good one
blue, heres a way to test it,
go up a hill, not too steep, (lebanon church from sheets to walmart) or 51 near the ford dealership near your place, put it in 3rd or 4th at about 25-30mph then give it some torque. then push your clutch in just a hair while your still giving it gas, if the rpm’s go vrrooommmm and up, you have a problem with the clutch, this is the way i’ve always tested it that is
not a good way to test… if you press the clutch pedal you are disengaging.
just put the car in a parking lot,
put it in 4th and dump the clutch… if the car stalls you’re golden… if it doesn’t you aren’t.
that will tell you if the clutch is worn…he’s probably not looking at a warn clutch he’s probably looking at overpowering the stock pressure plate
its not a dsm
so? you mean to tell me dsms are the only ones who make enough power to spin their stock disks on stock pressure plates?
its a ford, rarely is the pressure plate the problem.
when you start making extensive power over what the factory gives a car you will start overpowering plates on clutches…if you didn’t there woulndt be an aftermarket
Looks like i dont have that worry :booty:
I’m ordering a new flywheel, pressure plate, and clutch in a week… no sense in taking chances anymore.
You told me that you changed your clutch a month ago anyways, and it was a warranted repair. Need a replacement already, or just bs?
