Sirius XM hasn’t even been one for long, and yet we’re already staring an impending price increase in the face. According to Sirius Buzz, company support representatives are now confirming to the general public that a rate hike will go into effect starting March 11, 2009. They’re encouraging current subscribers to lock in their current rates for three years in order to be grandfathered in, but should you choose not to, you’ll likely be paying $2 more for additional subscriptions and a $2.99 fee for the online internet radio service. If there’s any good news here, it’s that the latter fee will give you access to that oh-so-amazing 128k “premium” feed, though we’re still left in the dark about any future channel expansions stemming from the increase.
This will be the last straw for me… im not locking in rates for 3 years… fuck them if they thing i will sign a contract
i have been thinking about canceling for some time now cause i only listen to it in the summer car and even that could be a rarity since i am going to get an adapter to be able to listen to my mp3 player
great… How does this effect people that bought a “lifetime” subscription from XM while they were running that special? I think they accidentally lumped me into that for some reason (haven’t ever recieved a bill for it)

There’s probably a reason. Oh, and they kept too much Sirius management. XM was the better run company. As long as they don’t fuck with O&A, I’m OK though
I think the programming on Sirius for Rock, R&B, talk, sports and comedy are all far better than what XM was offering. Sirius also had a fairly consistent growth, where XM was about done.
Sirius is run by notorious asshole Mel Karmazin who’s known for gutting a company’s internals in favor of the stock price. He also overpaid for exclusive rights on a bunch of expensive stuff that put them in the hole. (See: Howard) I preferred the programming on XM, for rock/pop and comedy.
Stern makes 100 million dollars a year. BASE SALARY. That means, not counting overhead, other programming, the cost to launch the damn satellites, equipment subsidies, marketing, employees, blah blah blah, they have to bring in roughly 1 million subscribers per year who would ONLY subscribe to the service because of howard. They only had 8 million subscribers on the sirius side. They did the same shit with the NFL, NASCAR, etc. Not only that, but he gets bonuses too. In 2006, he made 302 million. Almost 50% of their revenue from subscribers went to 1 guy.
More than likely cancel if that does happen. I have 3 radios and am already paying almost $30 a month for it. I could just use the aux port and an MP3 player and not have to deal with the shit they’ve been paying more and more often.
