My friend (Skaterdude888) just bought a 2003 Evolution VIII. Seems to be in pretty good condition and has some good mods like a CF hood, turbo timer, boost gauge, some sort of cat-back, an alarm, and a completely busted sony sound system. I’m doing a little work on it for him, and I wanted some before pictures, so here is the car basically as he bought it. I removed some sort of CF tailpipe surround thing because it looked like crap, and mounted the license plate in the windshield so I don’t get pulled over.
Nice, I don’t think I’ve seen a hood like that yet.
And FYI as per NYS law the plate needs to be “secured & fixed” (does not move around) to the front bumper of the car. You can still get a ticket if the plate is in the window. IMO, if you’re not going to have it on the bumper you might as well not have it displayed at all.
The hood is all CF, but partially painted to match the car. I actually like the way it looks. I have talked to several cops and they all seem to be under the impression that the windshield is a perfectly fine spot as long as it’s not blocking anything you need to see. So it might not be legal, but the cops I’ve talked to think it is, and thats good enough for me.

Speaking of Evos and cops, has anyone else noticed that the rear wing is the perfect hight to completely block the headlights of cars, therefore making it tough to watch for cops? Could be a height thing, I’m about 5-11.
Yeah just tell him to watch out. If he’s driving like a dick and the cops are looking for an excuse, it’s just one more thing they can ticket him for.
correct. per section 402.b of the NYS VTL LINK
will do

does that mean it’d be legal on the outside of the windshield? haha
I tired looking for height and mounting laws but had no luck.
I’ll let him deal with it, haha. I appreciate the effort though.
not a fan of the hood but otherwise
hope he enjoys it. im sure ill see it around as he will mine
Pm’d!
Ewwww on the hood. Lose that system. Otherwise from what I can tell nice Evo.
Oh and tell him to sell me the cf exhaust shield. I want it
^^ thats what i Pm’d him about lol but no response yet
ha ok, bummer!
I’ll get a pic and post it, and whenever I get ahold of him, I’ll see if he wants to sell it.
Fixed the problem with the cd player, other than the fact that it’s sony. Turns out whoever installed it did the wiring with crimp connectors. Why don’t people understand that if you want your stereo to work, take the extra 5 minutes and solder it? I also replaced the front two speakers with kenwoods, which are a big improvement.
Yeah, you can’t have anything that far down on the windshield, that is what those lines are on either side, so not only could you get a ticket for not having the front plate on the bumper, but you could get a second ticket for obstructing view.
I like Evos  Pull the turbo timer, the system, and the alarm, and get a mbc and tune, and it will run low 12’s
I bet he has higher odds of getting a front plate ticket because now the cop will see it and think something is not right. I drove my evo for 5 years before my first front plate ticket and I had that dropped (fix it ticket)
Definitely not digging the plate mount…
Definitely not digging that hood…
But, it is a clean looking car, not shabby
Tell him to get some nice wheels and a drop!
I’m gonna let him decide what to with the plate. As for the hood, I think he likes it, so that’s all that matters. I’m working on painting the rims black. and I guess he wants to drop it a bit soon.
He should paint his entire windshield like a license plate.
