Skipped Church Sunday and Painted My Civic.

Not sure if this goes here or not, it’s a DIY, but there is no write up.

Car needed paint in the worst way so I did it myself, in true fashion to the rest of the build, by myself in the garage. Big thumbs up to Al-Wil on transit for all the paint and supplies, really awesome guys there. Also thanks to Willybeen for the wall-street journal used in masking, kisses. Scuffed and sprayed saturday, let the primer dry overnight, sprayed sealer colors and clear all day sunday.

overall it came out well, few imperfections mainly in the body work i didnt see until clear was done. couple runs in the clear i’ll sand and buff out. there is a good amount of orange peel i can get out no prob with some wet sanding and buffing. the final result came out much better than i expected with using a paint with this much metallic. i’d never do it again thats for sure, lol. many headaches while spraying with the plastic falling down, air compressor flipping the breaker in the garage, the compressor hose hitting the paint etc etc. i’m not even 100% certain I dig the color with the wheels, but it’s probably because its just soooooo different from white. we’ll see when i get it together, wheels can always be changed.

Ryan

I actually like the color, looks good with gold.

not bad…
Good job. Looks nice

 good job diy.

we shall be talking soon when i get back

nice job, also you really fill out the crotch of those coveralls

color looks great with the wheels. when do you plan on getting it back together?

a cf duckbill would be hawt

How did your neighbors feel about this

Yeah…get a good wet sand and buff on it and it should flatten the peel out quite a bit.

I do like the gold with that color alot tho.

no overspray on the cbr plz…

2 steps ahead of you, pics at the end of the week.

neighbors love it, they’ve seen the whole project coming together. Although the smell was horrendous, lol

wow looks great  nice work

how much did it end up costing you for supplies?

$800 for everything from gun to suit to paint and paper

very impressed, i worked in our body shop for 2 years and I wouldn’t have been able to do that. need a job?

looks good, dont worry about church, “the man” didnt show up.

Dam! Really good for a DIY garage job.

love the color  nice job

Good on you - that’s not bad! What did you shoot (paint/primer brand names) and how many coats? What did you take the existing paint down with, namely the grit?

+234 for Al Wils. They really go out of their way there.

You know you’re obsessed with cars when you’re painting the damn things in your garage

sanded existing paints with 220 because of the two tone door and front fenders, then the entire car with 240. sprayed dupont’s primer/surfacer and waited over night. scuffed with 220 then 400. sprayed dupont’s urethane sealer, then 2 coats of dupont’s chromabase black with 5 minutes between coats. 45min later masked it off and 3 coated the dupont chromabase burgundy/red/purple lol with 5 between coats. 45 min later 2 coats of duponts chromaclear in the jams and 3 coats on the outer surfaces. all done with a big compressor and a $100 craftsman gun. first time i’ve ever sprayed anything from a gun with the exception of lacquer on a door once at a seminar. i explain to wood workers alllllll day how to shoot clears and paints and stains for residential and commercial shit, so i knew HOW to do it, just wasn’t sure if I could. I think I did well for never spraying in my life. I smiled ear to ear when I rolled it outta the garage today after work.

 reminds me of my eclipse, very nice ryan
