Slack's 1971 Datsun 240z

240z + RB30 = :bowdown (or go for broke and TB48, nissan Patrol engine) I’m not a drag car fan, but this car is just plain siiiiiick.

and that 240 shell isn’t bad. I used to restore cars and a '70 Opel GT I did was far worse and came out near concours.

Just keep plugging away at it and it’ll get done. Resto work is hell(which is why I don’t do it anymore) but the final results are very rewarding

RIPS’s Z is nutty. But I’m going with a v8, partly for the sound, partly for the low end torque. Having 250+ ft lbs at 2.5K-3k rpm is crazy fun in a <2500lb car.

i came in here to just look at the pictures, but all i have to say is rb26dett+rb25 tranny (keeping it rwd) ftw.

You people and your RB’s, haha. Don’t worry, it will be just as nasty, if not more nasty, than an RB.

love these old 240s

how many miles does that engine an tranny have on them, this would be a good swap for my coupe

The engine is out of a '95, and its got 90k on it. The tranny has 40k.

Been reading up on the VH45DE motor and with everything I read I like it more. The block is apparently very stout. Some people on both NicoClub and Hybridz say they are good for at least 600whp. The stock rev limiter is 7500, which will be nice if I can get it to make power that high up. 90% of the motors tq is had by 2000rpm. The heads also flow enough for roughly 500hp.

As far as my Z, I’ve been busy as of late. Did get a little more done, no pictures tho. Rear hatch is off, discovered that the rear corner lights were totally rusted. They turned to dust as I took them out. Started on the taillights, but the screws are all sorts of stuck. I also ordered a service manual.

I’m going back to Roc on Sunday to hopefully get the tails out and mark out all the rust. The next steps after that are fixing all that rust. Then sourcing a motor, tranny, and rear end. Then comes mock up and fab. At some point I also need to purchase the new suspension components, brakes, and new hardware for everything (pretty much every nut and bolt on the car will be replaced).

Someone say Arby’s?

What?

bolts ons and cams in a VH45 in a nice little 240Z would move pretty damn good.

RBs…i think

LS1/t56 > anything else

i agree, but a VH45 is a very stout motor. i have no idea what tranny would be used in a swap like this, though

Z32 5 speed tranny, there are a few people that make adapter plates for them. Tranny also fits nicely into a 240z. And the vh45 is just as stout as a RB, cheaper, and IMO sounds better. As far as an LS1, eh. I could. But I wanna be a little different. That also applys with the RB swap, tons of people have them. Proven to work. I’d rather try something different.

Just got back from working on the Z. Forgot the camera tho, so no pictures.

Rear hatch is off, rear bumper is off, gas tank is out. The gas tank was a bitch, just about everything connected to it was rusted on.

Found a ton of bondo and rust on the back bumper. Looks salvagable from the outside, but I haven’t started to scrape the bondo off yet. Taillights are still in because the little plugs the screws screw into were just spinning in the plastic housing. I’m going to get some epoxy for next time and glue the fuckers in so they can’t spin as I’m taking the screws out.

I would also have the wheels off but the previous owner left 1 of the 4 locking lugs on, and no key for it. I did pick up lugnut removers on the way to the shop today for just this problem, but I didn’t realize that I would need a 1/2" drive extention to use them. THe things are double sided so there is no way to get them on a wrench w/o an extention.

Next time I’ll have the taillights out, the rust in the back figured out, the wheels off, and hopefully most of the suspention too.

Just found this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3hLQtXRAqU&feature=channel

VH45 overbored to 5.0L, running 12:1 cr with ITBs and cams. Sounds dead sexy.

Back from the dead

'76 280z with a l28et in it (turbo inline 6).

Nice man! Deff looks like a better starting point than the other one!

The L28ET is such a fucking dog thou.

thats a bad ass sounding motior
