Smithenhiven's 1964 Honda S600 restoration thread.

Since this project is picking up some pace, I figured I’d post some pics/info:

About the car: 1964 Honda S600, 22,000 original Kilometers (that’s something like 13000ish miles), early S500 style glass covered headlights (only the first few hundred S600’s came like this). Oldest known “S600” to exist in the US.

Some pics,

When I first got the car:

The interior: needs fully restored (if anybody on here does reupholstery work, shot me a PM).

The engine, 606cc DOHC quad carb, 4 cyclinder:

Taking the drivetrain out of the car soon to repaint the engine bay:

The plan is to do an all original restoration, bring it back to how it left the factory (well except for the carbs, I don’t want to rebuild the original sidedrafts, so the Mikuni’s will do).

I’ll post some more pics soon, when I pull the engine, send it out for some paint touchups, etc…

Thanks for looking.

supercool

Really cool!

awesome
very unique

different, is that where the S2000 got some of its heritage?

wow thats unique.

yep and that is awesome!

Look in goooooooood. Need any help setting up the Carbs? Mike loves playing with the Mikuni’s.

looks like an awesome, and expensive project. good luck

looks like a fun project.

Thanks for the compliments eveyone.

Today I was able to get the engine/tranny out of the car, I’m going to repaint the engine bay, try to clean up and polish what I can on the engine. I’m just waiting on some key parts to arrive and this car should be on the road by the end of summer.

I’ll post some more pics next week.

Some pics from this weekend, pulled the engine/tranny out.

Yea oddly enough, Honda went from building RWD roadsters to FWD shitboxes (j/k). I dunno if you could fit a V8 in there quik you may just want to stick with the S2000 on that idea hehe.

smithenhiven - I dunno if you go to the Pittburgh Vintage Gran Prix at all but that past few years a S800? I think keeps showing up to race and doesn’t to half bad at all. Thats a awesome project though, very different. Is it safe to say you can’t get any parts from a honda dealership or does some other company supply them? Keep up the good work I can’t wait to see that when its done.

I’ve never seen the S800 at the PGP, but I was told before about one showing up, I’ll have to go next time to check it out. Yeah, Honda stopped selling parts for these cars in the early 90’s I believe, there’s a few company’s in Japan, Europe, and Australia that sell reproduction parts, and many people sell NOS parts.
