I snapped an 8mm bolt in the aluminum block on my dirt bike. I’m looking for a good machinist or someone who has a lot of experience to give me a hand getting it out. I can get pliers on it, but it won’t back out. I’m guessing I need a left turn drill bit and/or ez out. I’m just off main in Clarence.
I would get vise grips on it as tight as possible and tap the end of the snapped off bolt with a hammer a few times to break the corrosion bonds, then heat the aluminum around the threads with a propane or mapp gas torch and try and try and back the bolt out.
Where are you located? I have a bit set for broken bolts. Used it once on the Yamaha warrior exhaust bolt. Worked perfect.
What LXI said. I would spray PB Blaster or use a 50/50 mixture of Acetone and ATF and let that sit overnight. Come out the next day and heat the metal around the bolt and then it will come out. I’d do whatever possible to not have to fuck with an EZ out/reverse drill bit bullshit. If you can get a set of vice grips on it sounds like you have a decent amount of the bolt left. Just don’t fuck it up and snap it flush with the block
enough room to weld a nut on it? how much is it sticking up ?
