So how about them wacky North Koreans...

The IP address came from China, but that really doesn’t mean much. They didn’t hack the government or banks, so it could have just been a jab through China at SK. Does anyone really think that NK is more capable than we think?

You don’t need to conquer every part of a country to win a war, just the politlcal and financial centers, in this case NYC and DC. Maybe Chicago and Los Angeles too for good measure.

Not saying they’d be able to do even that, just the idea that to defeat America they’d need to conquer every area and every citizen is a flawed concept.

cyber war!!

News coverage like this keeps putting money in my pockets lol

NYC, DC, LA and Chicago? They can fucking have all 4. Lol

So you want to capture major cities with no resources and nobody who will fight back?

with the exception of DC?

If they capture DC I doubt it matters what the rest of the country thinks. Everyone on this forum seems to have a very particular point of view about politicians, does anyone think that if the people in DC had rifles pointed in their faces that they wouldn’t surrender instantly?

Taking the financial center would throw many major companies into complete turmoil, among those affected would be oil companies and grocery stores. Even if they were able to keep their shit together and keep cities supplied that get most of their food/gas shipped in, the aggressor in the attack would be stupid to actually invade the cities. With even a mediocre military they could block off the major highways and have planes patrolling for supply trucks to blow up. Once the grocery store shelves go empty and there’s no new sources of food coming in, people start to panic and it’s game over. Modern warfare wouldn’t be like call of duty where there are gun battles going on in suburban streets, unless the aggressor has no tactical knowledge whatsoever.

Again, that having been said there’s no way in hell NK would be able to do any of that without getting bitch slapped off the face of the planet.

…Also, reading back on this I’m realizing I have way too much time to think about this stuff. I need a hobby or something lol.

Post 9/11 from a control perceptive DC means nothing every DoD and important organization has a continuity of operations plan.

All of those major cities you mentioned also have little to do with the day to day operations of food production.

You would be better served controlling power and mass communication.

Good point.

Very true, but taking the financial center throws the economy into turmoil. This could cause any number of affects on the value of money which is used to pay the people who produce it.

Also a good point. My main point with the above post is that the idea that a war would ever get to the point that we’d have civilians in the streets fighting off invaders is a bit far-fetched. It’s a nice daydream, but that’s about all it is.

Actually there are many food production plants in and around the direct areas listed.

Can the NK’s try attacking now so we can just get rid of that part of the map for a while?

A war with NK would suck. We won’t declare war because we all know war is bad so we don’t do that anymore. We would just engage in armed conflict. But then we wouldn’t just indiscriminantly bomb the whole country. There would be civilian casualties. I mean, it’s not like we’re at war. Of course, after we’ve killed their leader (he won’t surrender) and destroyed enough of the army to scare the rest of the leadership into surrendering (that is how you win a war afterall, with fear. You’ve read WWZ right?) then we’ll have to help them rebuild. We can’t just let them to fend for themselves or we’ll just wind up with an Asian Bin Laden in 10 years. Plus they have to adopt our style of democracy to ensure that everyone (in the majority) has equal rights because that’s how the world should be and anyone who disagrees is wrong. Oh, and they must have some sort of natural resource. No? Oh. Well, forget it. I guess they’re not that big of a threat.

As for an invasion and defeat of America. Hah. Haha. Hahahahahahahahaha.

Top 5 military spending countries.

Remember that whole “destroy enough of the army to scare the leadership into surrendering” thing? Not happening in our lifetimes.

^ But but but… RED DAWN!

But yeah, an actual ground attack with the goal of taking over the US with an occupied force is just laughable.

The idea of a couple of nukes getting tossed at DC, NYC and LA by a mentally unstable leader with serious dad issues and a Napoleon complex… not so laughable.

they will probably let nk attack once they disarm everyone so that the government can be the heroes and prove civilians don’t need guns. Or something like that

I didn’t think they had anything that could hit east coast anyways.

I’m sure they have the capabilities to do it. Whether or not it explodes on launch or falls apart is another story.

They have nukes, and have managed to use a rocket to put a satellite into orbit. It’s not an ICBM yet but it’s a good start. They’d still need the tech to shrink the nuclear payload down, build a re-entry shield and finalize the tracking for re-entry.

Right but this isn’t like HEY WE CAN TAKE 10MIN AND BUILD THIS

I was more impressed by NK attacking SK over the internetz

All the security experts thought they were a joke and going nowhere, then NK popped that satellite into orbit.

Not sure how much I trust those same experts when they say, “oh, they’re a long ways off from being able to reach the east coast”. If it goes anything like the satellite launch the “experts” will know NK has the capability when there are ICBM’s inbound and 35 minutes from landing in DC.

I wonder what type of defense is in place to protect against such a threat.
