went and got an OOP inspection today. failed because i did not have day time running lights as well as my car starts with the clutch released which it is not supposed to apparently. so tommorow i am supposed to go in and get a running light module installed as well as a sensor so i have to push my clutch in to start my car. its going to cost me 250 bucks though. anyone have these same problems when they got theirs done?
If those were the only problems, you got off pretty good. No tierod ends ? joints ? brakes ?
he said the brakes are pretty much brand new and the suspension is in very good shape. everything else was excellent as well.
Thats really good news man, glad to hear it…
why would you have to get the sensor so you would have to push the clutch in to start your car?
all the cars that I have owned that are manual and from north america were all able to turn on without the clutch engaged. wtf.
Its your nuetral safety switch and its there to make sure your car won’t start in gear and take off running. My car doesn’t have it either but I didn’t have to worry bout it for my OOP cuz my friend can do them.
Ouch, man for some reason they passed mine and its the same as ures, no daytime lights, and no neutral switch for my clutch. Maybe its cause mine is a 90, or beacause the guy i took it too seem kinda crooked. Mine shouldnt have passed beacuse of the tires, but he said i need new ones and passed it anyway.
I poseted a relay pinout for dave, that would be easy to wire and cost like $20 for the lights, but dont know bout the clutch though.
I’m pretty sure all 240’s have a clutch bypass so that the vehicle will start without pressing the clutch. My s14 has it. . .I heard it’s meant to prolong clutch life . . .
Werd.
OOP shops are just getting way too anal lately its stupid …
soon we will have to install ABS and Airbags on old cars just to get them to pass
250… thats retarded… for like $20 in parts. and 20 mins of work.
take it somewhere else. What kinda car?
its a 180sx. seems retarded that 180’s are failing for things that are the same on 240’s.
I took my silvia to a decent shop and they dind’t even look for day time running lights, just made sure they worked. and the clutch thing is stupid! I had a '85 civic that you could start with the clutch engaged as well, and it came that way!! so that’s a load of bull!
I think the DRL law came in in 91 though, so that might be why our cars were ok, and ures needs it. I could be wrong, but it would make sense.
have fun with silvias…the last 2 silvias i brought in i had to change them to onevia’s before the inspection because the sil lights are not DOT approved! its getting brutal!
the car passed today, 275 bucks and NINE hours, thats right, i said 9 hours of labour. for a day time running light relay and a clutch release sensor… :finga:
You should have just told them that the car is to old to have a clutch switch.
Newer cars have them so you can’t start it in gear and rear-end the car infront of you, such as an 05 TSX.
I am sorry but you just got hosed as no S13’s (probably S14’s) ever had one or needed one. And DRL’s can be wired up in as little as 5 minutes with a 5 dollar relay.
Looking at the wiring diagrams from the FSM, the USA models had the clutch safety switch, while Canadian models didn’t. Crock of BS.
