So I pulled the trigger

So I parked the car last Saturday :frowning:

After an awfull track outing 2 weeks ago I screwed up the motor, tranny and my exhaust. I don’t think my worst off of the season helped too much. Slicks don’t seem to give warning when they loose grip

I have a bunch of plans for her this winter though:

  • finish repairing what rust there is left
  • fabricate sidebars for cage
  • full multi-link (rear and front)
  • new inner and outer tie rods
  • Install the aluminum subframe bushings I’ve had collecting dust
  • out comes the SOHC and in goes the DOHC
  • lower the car more
  • new steering wheel
  • have wheels refinished, they are getting rough
  • set of new toyo RA-1’s
  • have a new exhaust fabricated by Ian
  • sway bars
  • and I’ve been toying with the idea of dumping money into a Kaaz 1.5, my VLSD is spinning one wheel on corner exits now.

I’ll update with more pictures on the weekend, I cut half of the passenger side rocker.

Andrew.

why refinish the rims when you can give them to me for free?

Werd… yo I need the hoist, the TT’s motor is puking out oil like nobody’s bidness, lol.

Put up the damn pics! Haha, and put up my pics too, we all know I’m too lazy/irresponsible to bring a camera up to the shop.

Werd,

when I grab the motor from you I’ll bring the hoist. Its sitting in waynes garage. Probably within the next couple weeks. Seen?

You sure you don’t have my old KA in the TT?

Andrew.

Some updated pics:

Picture of all rocker rust cut out. What was a bubble turned into alot of cutting

Couple pics of rest of interior stripped out in preperation for installation of side bars. I’ll be putting the dash back in and fabricating some nice aluminum door skins to finish it off a bit.

Andrew.

andrew why not just shim the diff?

msg me on msn for details.

Your never online captain.
Elaborate here, VLSD isn’t clutch type, how do I shim it?

Andrew.

He doesn’t want other people knowing his secret :noes:

Shiming adds more preload to clutchs in a clutch diff if I’m not mistakin. Means it will be more agressive from what I understand. However I don’t really know how our Viscous differentials work and how they could be shimmed.

Andrew.

Don’t shim your diff unless you are not interested in keeping it…

Last I heard they will last about 2 or 3 months untill it becomes fully open.

PM me for details (or hit me up on MSN) cause I don’t want to divulge the origin of my knowlege. heh.

Theo

Tsk tsk… What’s with this whole SON cult of secrecy? Enthalpy released his PFC base tunes for everyone to see and the guy makes his living off that, and you guys are holding on to your diff shimming secrets?

wow? somone told you it wouldnt last?

i think i’d listen to a bunch of kewi’s and aussies who run the shit all day every day and drift the shit out of them.

here’s the how-to.

I love you Matty
Andrew.

I love me too

Some more progress on the car this week.

Ian made me a new exhaust, my old one had seen better days. For those that remember my old one, it was a legend

Exhaust is not quite finished but close to it.

Also pulled the SOHC out, sad to see it go. First SOHC I’ve had that was actually extremely strong, too bad it had 250k km on it.

Andrew.

Right on the money… I drove in two different SRs recently… and was unimpressed… the cars just don’t feel fast… compared to some other 240s with suspension upgrades… far more fun going fast in corners than just having mediocre straightline performance… where new stock cars can own you in.

I hope to for next year to have stance coilovers and largus swaybars… and manual conversion, and a nonleaking exhaust… then i will come out to the track. My current setup makes me happy, minus the fact that Im running auto… I dont need more power… I love to hear others invest in suspension work rather than just engine swaps or power upgrades… The swaybars are a priority though… and maybe stitch welding the chassis… The s13 chassis is so damn mushy… that I was thinking of parting out recently and saving up for an FD rx7 or s2000… but then I thought I just rather go all out on my car as is… as it would have been a waste of money of what i already did… unless maybe I did a trade for an FD… (non turbo, unless the turbo chassis in some ways better then I would want the turbo).

What son needs are more threads of people’s wips, journals, track days, etc… it makes the forum alot more fulfilling and fun… my favourite internet forum is ziptied.com… it should be an example for other car forums…

Well winter is here soon… and my car shall be parked beginning 12th of november… all the way until the beginning of spring, with the ocassional startup to keep her from rotting :frowning:

That exhaust is going to flow much better then the previous one… Ian did a good job on it…

yeah… it most certainly looks decent.
What motor are you throwing in?

Andrew’s going big. He got fed up with not having enough under the hood, so he’ll be swapping in the untamed beast…
A … DUAL overhead cam KA
