So much for security of new "enhanced" license/passport card

yeah, I never said it was a huge risk, but you could probably monitor someone’s behaviors.

If you had a creepy neighbor, he could tell when you go past his house. That would tell him if you were home of not. Dumb stuff like that COULD happen(not that it is likely at all).

I wouldn’t really be worried about it. Just mentioning it.

or…he could look out his window…

Yeah, I love the irony that the majority of people concerned about the privacy of an RFID chip will cruise around with their cell phone on all the time.

To be clear, I in no way made this thread because I’m worried about MY security. I don’t give a shit if someone gets my unique ID because as an individual it’s worthless information to me. You can’t use it to get access to my bank, get a new ID in your own name or steal my identity.

I made this thread because I found it amusing that this whole western hemisphere travel initiative that the government is spending tons of money on, and making citizens spend tons of money on for new ID’s, is using such easily compromised technology. Even more amusing that their “solution” is including a foil pouch with every ID. This tipping point of comedy was the fact that this foil pouch is not see through, for an ID that people constantly want to SEE to verify your identity or age. :picard:

haha yeah, if your crazy enough to attempt to use the chip in your neighbor’s enhanced license to monitor their behavior, then you’re probably crazy enough to just stare out the window all day.

I’m not concerned at all, my whole point of stating the “risks” was that I was not concerned. As long as there is no potential for ID Theft, I’m fine with it.

which is why no real effort was put into said foil sleeve??

But read the rest of what I said. While it’s no big deal to me personally, it’s a pretty big issue security wise for the government that these enhanced ID’s can be scanned and the chip cloned so easily.

More or less the foil pouch serves the same purpose as the foil pouch that comes with EZ-Pass. If you have more than one ez-pass in your car at a time, both can be scanned if the other one isnt in those nifty pouches, actually happend to me before so I will use the foil pouch when my enhanced comes in.

Microwave for 10 seconds = security risk defeated.

sounds like a select few of you have seen eagle eye…

90% of this board is unemployed and poor, you think the government is going to really waste their time on you… people are so full of yourselves.

:roflpicard:

it’s just a drivers license

orly.

The information on the card is borderline useless.
IMO.
SO security of said information is pointless.

^Oh shit I forgot you work at the boarder. lol
I was just kidding.:io:

Meh, those enhanced licenses are a waste of time and money.

The info that is on there now is useless but I am sure they will inform you when they start putting all of your important, private info on there. (wink, wink.)

Good luck getting BACK INTO the USofA with a passport / EDL that mysteriously doesn’t scan.

Yeah, that would be great press for the system huh?
I would be on the phone with Faux News instantly.

Stupid question, but I’m too lazy to search and never did any research. Do you need the carry those all the time, or can you just use them for travel and carry your regular license the rest of the time? I’d consider one if that was the case. Otherwise, meh, I go to Canada maybe once a year, not worth the hassle.

it replaces your standard license

This is the next step…

Do you own a cell phone?

Me personally? No. My company has several though.
