I know Jays05 did some research on LWFW’s and came to the conclusion that on any big turbo car running big power, the lighter flywheel/clutch assembly actually causes the car to put out less torque due to the lower inertia… I think that’s what he was saying, but I’m not 100%.
i have an OEM 14lb flywheel, i know alot of 1.8T BT guys dont go less than 14lb because it hurts spool too, less mass= less load.
They are junk when not balanced before put in the car, fidanza is notorius for having unbalanced flywheels that shake the shit untill either the clutch/pressure plate bolts give, or the flywheels shatters and kills everything.
you need to read the thread. thats not a fidanza, and thats not what happened. thats an Unorthodox flywheel and the pressure plate exploded.
probably 60psi.
Correct. While not a direct science, on average for every pound you remove from the rotating assembly(FW, crank, rod BIG END, balancer, etc) you free up 2.2hp but lose about 2ftlbs. Again it’s an average and overall it’s determined by a myriad of variables.
As far as hurting spool due to inertia loss, again it’s all based on the engine/setup. The longer the duration between firing sequences, the greater this effect will be noticeable. In other words, it’s an effect that’s more pronounced on four and small disp six’s, but starts to reduce in v8’s,10,12…and as displacement goes up as well.
Clutch failure is ugly. Took out part of the block case webbing too. Bloc is going to have to be checked for cracks in the rear webbing and repaired. Damn shame, that’s a nice car too…
nope. 32psi iirc.
correct. with room to go. but as you can see the power is already too much for the stage 5 clutch that was in it… extensive headwork on a 1.8T and it begins to flow on par with a VTEC head. but its not cheap as im sure the word Extensive spells out. remove the T and replace with a P. and a PT67DBB isnt a small turbo by anymeans. especially on a 2.0 engine
whats a clutch? :lol
srsly tho, why isnt there a scattershield in that car? i mean, its like having a shrapnell filled landmine under ur ass and not doing anything about it safety-wise. its a nice looking car though, i like it.
it was not deemed necessary at that point when the car was built, i said this once already, learn to read.
and your attempts at sounding knowledgable failed you again. it could happen on the most modest of cars. Jammers clutch exploded on his M3, nothing wild done there, so should i have a scattersheild on my car mr wizard? i mean i have an aftermarket clutch and power upgrades. same thing could happen. its an unfortunate event, and on a street car that gets slicks here and there, you dont expect that to happen.
for safety’s sake, id put it on your car. i wouldnt want to pierced by shrapnell
buy it for me and ill put it on. and im not too worried about shrapnal. if you are afraid of an OEM flywheel giving way maybe you should start walking.
i dont have a flywheel in my car. how in the world do u get them to blow holes in the tranny case though?
Imagine a 20lb machined piece of aluminum spinning at 8700rpms and then you whack it with a hammer and it shatters.
Where do those pieces go and how fast are they traveling?
:runaway
:ohnoes yarg. makes me glad i dont have one of those under my ass heh.
bah auto ftl
i dont race, im in traffic all the time NOT overheating the car. im content
haha there’s nothing ‘wrong’ with running a ltw fly.
anything with a rotating assembly holds the potential. like i said, if youre scared, walk. imaging riding a motorcylce and a rod breaks, its going into your nuts.
benny youve got a 20lb aluminum flywheel? thats a HUGE flywheel. my steel one is only 14lb
