Sobo's Mitsubishi Evolution 8. Long term keeper :)

Actually, most Evo’s don’t have any limited slip.

haha STOP! I’m trying to drive this thing for like 3 more years without swapping in a long rod. You guys are too persuasive.

You can get LSD’s for the evo but they do not come with them stock unless you get an RS, and even then it’s just a front one I believe.

STI’s aren’t even in the same league as this car is, at least in my eyes. I used to be an STI fan boy but no more.

STi’s are way over-rated and over-priced. I would also take an EVO instead.

I wouldn’t say they are over-rated, they are still great cars. I have owned 2 STis and 2 Evos, and they are both wonderful cars. For drag racing though, an Evo wins out.

Ya I mean pauls car has been over 500 for the past 2 years and the STM cars make good power on the stock motor. If you aren’t assclowning from every light it will hold. Paul’s car sees hard driving any time he brings it out and it hasn’t let go yet crosses fingers for tomorrow

the dumbest statement ive heard from a noob in a long time

sobo if i were you id stay away from fp get a 35r or some form of garrett turbo, i wasnt happy with fp

I might go with a CBRD turbo I’m not sure yet. I know you had difficulties with FP but did you follow their oil feed requirements? I know the stock location is not sufficient to support the FP red turbo and you have to pick it up off the oil filter area.

STI’s aren’t over rated. But they are more expensive to modify and are alot more difficult to work on when it comes to things like cams and what not. Thats all thats really bad to say about them. Other than that, I think they have better quality interiors and drive nicer but still. For a drag/street car, an evo is the more practical car to use.

The FP stuff is awesome for Evos. I haven’t heard of anyone with a single problem, and they perform AWESOME.

I thought these have no problem doing axle spins like STi’s. I didn’t think they would do them with open diffs. I would honestly rather have limited slips than power haha.

You can get an evo to spin on a dime… I do it all the time in my car.

So much so, that I have rubber on my mirrors. As far as I can tell an LSD is only going to help you in a drag or rally situation were you absolutely need off the line traction.

They do axis spins just fine.

It depends on what diff you’re talking about. the center diff could benefit from an LSD to keep the front and rear spinning together on a launch, but the front and rear diffs while going straight won’t matter too much. All open diffs cut’s mid 1.4 60’ times just fine. The real benefit I believe is in road racing, coming out of turns and what not, and then the stronger diff for launches having the lsd (but not necessarily for better launches).

I found that the Evo actually spun better than my '04 Sti, the one time I had the red Evo in the snow.

My A4 has open diffs and won’t spin on dry, it has a TBE and chip so it makes pretty good torque too : (

I was just reading that they have viscous LSD’s centers, and mechanical rear LSD’s. Anyone have a legit source about the drivetrain on these? Which models have what?
http://www.modernracer.com/history/mitsubishilancerevo8history.html

It changes throughout the model years. I have viscous coupling non lsd. Maybe in japan, they also get anti-lag and active yaw control over there. We got jipped.

And you can’t spin because you own an audi they are designed to understeer haha.

I don’t have too much experience with the center and rear. I know 100% the front is open on non-RS models. I am sure that one of the sites (tre, shep, or buschur) would have more info.

'03-'04 have open diff, viscous coupling '04 RS had LSD then '05-present had LSD standard. I have an '05.

I know we were robbed not having AYC. Lucky Evo X owners.

Either way, they all grip haha. Too bad the evo 9 didnt get AYC, the X is such a boat :frowning:

Yeah their slow vs. 8-9 stock for stock. Not to mention the hideous front end and rear lol.

They’re making some good power on that stock block though.

Yeah they are. The only things I can say I like about their motors is they use a timing chain and have mivec on both cams. There is more benefits with that motor other then those two.

But Evo 8-9 just looks better inside/out and is roomier.

the dumbest statement ive heard from a noob in a long time[/QUOTE]I test drove a new STi a few years ago and it’s performance couldn’t justify it’s price. I was expecting more after all the hype over the years. I do like the regular Impreza and WRX though.
