I know the ACT’s aren’t the best but I’m going to make due with mine for now and not try and push the RPM limits on it.
I am going to try a different route than most go with my clutch set up, I’m not a fan of the replace your clutch every 15k deal or the rattle of a twin disc. I might try a sprung 6 puck because of the lower rotational mass (which causes lock out) and a Mitsubishi TOB. Or I might grab a twin disc. It’s still up in the air for me.
Evo trannies are so picky I miss my fbody where parts just worked.
yea the quartermaster isnt the greatest for a DD thats for sure, just with the power i make i had two options. exedy triple or quartermaster. the hydralic TOB sold me because i was afraid of popping the springs out on the exedy and about 6 months after i got the QM emery made up the clutch fork stop which took care of that.
the QM is certainly a pain to learn to drive at first, but once ya get it done its like nothing at all. it just works for me because my car sees less than 1500 miles a year haha. since the motor will be out this winter im just going to rebuild it for the hell of it, its only 300 bucks so why not, especially with the power ill be making next year.
the ACT did work great however when i had a stock turbo on the car and was only revving to 7500 max
Geez, your car is going to be awesome next season. Not going to lie I’ve been looking at those long rod buschur motors and they look extremely promising. High RPM possibilities combined with reliability unlike strokers that need rebuilds every so often.
2011 is the year of the evo for sure.
And from what I’ve heard the ACT 6 puck is just light enough to get by with 8500 rpm shifts. With how cheap they are I think I’m going to buy one for the hell of it and if it doesn’t work out like I planned then I’ll either junk it or sell it off. If I have to spend the money I’d probably pick up a used exedy twin disc and rebuild it.
Ugh shits expensive when it comes to drivetrain. I’m hoping to just sort out the power department this year and get my motor as rock solid as a stock block can be. I definitely need some motor mounts.
I’ll tell you what though. I’m extremely excited to be bombing around in my evo next summer. I plan on getting a CF trunk w/ no wing and painting the wheels silver again. I’ll be flying under the radar…
exactly what im doing, 2.0 long rod motor, 10:1, on e-85. im towing the car down to dave himself as he offered to tune it, i already told him i want atleast 700whp on his dyno  i already have my buschur head and BF 272 cams sitting here, just gotta pull my motor and take it down to dave still.
drivetrain is indeed very expensive, i broke my stock 03 t-case this year as well. these stock motors take one hell of a beating, mine has been over 500 for the last two years and has 44k on it with VERY high revs. still goes like a champ somehow. motormounts help a lot too, i run the powerflex mounts and i have no regrets with those, my motor doesnt move at all, i like them. there is better out there though, but for the price you cant go wrong!
You could still get good numbers and a good power band from an fp black. Pauls HTA86 isn’t in it’s sweet spot yet and it still makes good power and from driving it it’s more than enough to put a shit eating grin on your face. It’s more or less a 35R shoved into a stock housing. Even if you ran like 30 psi on it that would be plenty good
I don’t love evo’s, but wingless VIII’s have grown a ton on me and they are soooo capable. LSD’s everywhere makes for such a fun car, plus the fact that you can make the power of an STi with much heavier modding. I wish 350whp was as safe on STi’s as it is on these. That is basically what would make me consider an evo.
