first off, great thread sobes. for 2,sti seats suck so much cock i really dont ever wanna sit in one ever again because they are so uncomfortable.I guess my shits deffantly gonna have to be next spring so i can roll too lol.
Idk I’m gonna have to say get the black. They’re like the same price last time I looked and you’ll always have the potential for more power if you choose to do so. Even if you hit full boost by like 4k or so and rev it out to about 8k that’s still a very good power band. But it’s your car and we’re all merely making suggestions which could be farts in the wind for all you care ya know haha.
your car is never gonna run its just a fact of life…that things cursed if you park it at my house we can work on both t same time lol…and its closer to gary’s
which my car actually can drive itself there its pretty fucking amazing…autopilot style…came with my last tune.
fp blacks are running about 1800 i think fp reds are around 1300-1400
i was going to get an fp red, i had the money, but i talked to someone at MAP and mason convinced me to just get my SCM61 which is basically a little bit more powerful than a 35r, but its journal bearing or “360 race bearing”. my car didnt start spooling til like 3200 but i would hit my whopping 10-12 lbs of full boost by 4k. his car made 423whp on only 22psi with 272s. that pretty much sold me there. if you’re going to get roughly the same performance (and my turbo was 700hp capable) i would rather spend 500$ less. however none of that matters because i parted out my car anyways loll.
and i would still rather have an evo 8/9 if im going to be making big hp numbers… 8/9 are closed deck, X are not
I still think I’m going to go FP red. I’d rather run a turbo in it’s efficiency range, enjoy the somewhat quick spool up, and not push my motor to the ragged edge. It’s my DD so drive-ability and reliability are the top priorities on my list.
There is nothing to stop me from porting this turbo, buying bigger injectors, and running e85. If I get bored of the power then I’ll be sure to go black.
There are plenty of big name tuners for evos around the area. I’m sure sobo’s tune is just fine the way it is. There’s emery, mike@ innovative, buschur is a few hours away and there’s plenty of people who do tunes through email like Mellon and that guy that did his from 4WS or whatever. This is what these people do for their survival and they’ve done hundreds if not thousands of tunes. Not knocking Gary but there’s plenty of people who do this. Anyway back on topic, I hope the red works for you. I’d get a hold of Emery and see if they are selling that red off of the white Evo that went 9.99 cause he’s upgrading to a FF and a 6262 last I heard…
i think that guy is the one who i went with to stm with stephano to buy his recaros off of, if you offer him something he will mostly likely take it. i think we got his seats for like 250$ lol, and they were pretty mint
Emery has shown to put proven cars down the track and have some pretty meaty dynos #'s. I visited his shop and was impressed with his operation. I plan on giving them at least parts business.
Tamer has been great to me and I can almost put him in the friend category… My car runs great and he hasn’t done me wrong in any way shape or form. He also treats me pretty respectfully and values my ideas and will go into detail to explain to me why things are the way they are. I really liked my experience with him.
Don’t get me wrong. #'s are one thing. But If I have to choose between being a tuner’s bitch or being treated respectfully I’ll give my business to the respectful one regardless of how proven their cars are.
I’m glad I pulled the radiator out when I did because I noticed a few problems.
Prior to this picture the wastegate actuator was rubbing against my o2 dump, this could have been giving me some knock problems. I loosened the bolts and pried it back a little. Evo’s have tight tolerances it seems.
I also noticed one of the AC lines was getting a little melted on the hotside of the intercooler. I ended up making a crude heat shield out of some electrical tape and aluminum sheet metal.
For parts sobo, extremepsi has always come out on top for me. If you have never dealt with them check em out in the future. Shipping is extremely quick and service is top notch.
I agree with you on choosing a tuner that’s respectful who works with you as much as they can while taking you down a positive road. I’ve heard alot of good about 4WS and hearing your experience with them I might have to set something up soon.
If it came down to driving to a shop for tuning Buschur>STM anyday though.
