Sock's 240sx Rusto Project (56k, tons of pictures)

Thief? Hardly. I believe it works out to cosr+3% to cover shipping and power.

I only got about 20minutes of work in on the car today.

Basically, I decided to chop out the bad section of the passenger rocker panel. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Oh god. So bad.

Taking care of a couple of high spots on the driver’s wheel well.

That’s really it for today.

I only got in an hour after work, but here’s the results.

Working the wheel well.

The 70% done rocker panel.

Making that weird muffler area.

All closed up for another day.

all these painfull hours your putting in could have been put in overtime at partsource and you could have gotten a better chassis

I wonder how much weight you are adding to the car.

I do commend you for the effort but I just dont ever think you can completely cure a car of cancer, you miss any rust and a year later itll be popping up through your new paint.

Keep going though!

No, because then I move into the next income level and 90% of that overtime becomes tax. I work two different jobs, so I have enough income for now. (I work about 60hours a week, by the way).

Well, I know that ongoing rust might be a problem. However, I’m painting the car in the MOPAR Forums Tremclad fashion. Rust should have a hard time bubbling through that. :stuck_out_tongue:

as long as u grease that f*cker to the tits everywhere on the frame and below the rockers…rust wont show up there…if no oxygen can get to the rust then it wont be rusting…when ur greasing the frame fill in all the holes hardcore, i know ill be doing that

but the body might come out again, i doubt it if u grinded it all down and cut it all out

Finally got some work done today.

Let’s get 'er started.

Overall, it was a good hour or so. I’m expecting to be done the body work in the next couple trips (welding that is).

Also, I picked myself up a nice autocross helmet for this car and the Altima.

I’m so damn excitied. I just have to weld up the wheel well and rocker and I’m done. Jesus, it’s so close to motor time.

Got another hour or so in on the 240sx.

Rear finished up.

(I know it ain’t pretty, but that’s not the point)

That’s really it for now. I’m really hoping that the fiberglass coating and undercoating will be able to keep the moisture out of the car.

you have to prime and paint properly, only paints and clearcoat finish keeps the moisture away, primer and bondo and glass absorb it

Oh really?

Waterproof & rustproof.

And the link.

Another hour into the project.

Still sealing up.

I ran out of latex gloves, so I decided to grab some dust masks finally.

I won’t be able to get out until Thursday to finish up that rocker panel. Expect updates then.

I figure while I’m replacing the brakes with OEM parts, I might as well get something just a bit better than stock. This is called the “180sx Upgrade” since it was the OEM brakes on the 180sx in Japan. Basically, it’s just bigger rotors, calipers, and pads from the US 1993-1997 Nissan Altima. I don’t want the big ass 300zx wheels as I’m looking at 15" rims and there’s clearance issues. Also, the prices makes me cringe.

Here’s a breakdown of the differences.

isn’t that smaller then stock?

15 inch is stock on the S13

15" Steelies at that. I’ll probably grab some 15-16" rims later on, but that’s hardly a big deal now.

Oh really?

Waterproof & rustproof.

mmm i would still paint it, i wouldnt just trust teh label

So the entire 93-97 (US only?) Altima’s brake rotors/pads/calipers (front & back or just front?) can be plug & play’d on S13’s?
