I was curious to see if anyone has run iTunes through a virtual environment? I was also curious about orb.com, since it would be nice to stream my XM feed again and not have to worry about it stinking up vista.
I figured I’d just install VPC2007 and run a copy of windows XP on it for exactly this reason. I’m unsure how it will respond though, since I’m not 100% sure how the networking is done in a virtual environment, and not only that but how it detects USB devices inside of the VE.
has anyone tried something like this? I really don’t like installing more software than I have to, especially if it’s loading processes at startup… so this seems like a no brainer if it works.
why would you wanna run these programs in a virtual os?
well, when I was running iTunes before on XP, I noticed significant slowdown on startup and didn’t like how itunes integrated itself into the OS. I really just want it to sync a movie or something to the phone and to update it when new firmware comes out.
The same with orb… It just seems sloppy sometimes. I have OCD when it comes to software installed on my PC… I don’t really like anything on there that I don’t need (can’t stand seeing 50+ processes running in the background on startup). But there are some apps that I use/would like to use every once in a while (like itunes and orb) that could probably benefit from being run outside of vista in a virtual environment… and if something gets screwed up, just delete the VHD and create a new one, without having to spend an hour to back everything up before reinstalling vista
when I get home, I’m going to actually try running OSX86 in VPC2007 and just use that for development and for running itunes… if I can even get it working. knock on wood
