*solution -G35 trunk wont open

I had the dreaded trunk malfunction occur intermittently over the past several weeks.

After chatting with a number of people there were numerous explanations for this and G-Driver had, as is usual, a lot of mis-information… however, after searching for a while i didnt find some useful advice on there… i thought i would share it here because it is a common problem.

When this issue occurs your trunk will not open with the key Fob, the trunk pop in the taillight or the dash mounted switch. The issue is that the actuator is not getting signal. The only way to open the trunk is to flip the rear seat down and pull the safety hatch inside the trunk.

However, do not take your car to the stealership just yet.

On the bottom right had side of the inside of the trunk is where the wiring harness to the actuator is. Pop the grommet and you will see this:

The green wire is the one you want… and for some reason it is commonly frayed. This is due to a lack of slack in the harness, it could have used a an extra couple centimeters. Also, the trunk has a sharp line where the harness feeds through so it likely frays on that edge after a while.

All you need to do at that point is add a length of wire, solder it and e-tape it up and you’re golden.

The previous owner of my car had done a weak job of this and it frayed through… i added some wire and it should be good for life now.
