Long story short, some dirtbag has the keys to my sister’s 2001 Civic DX coupe and she wants to have her door locks changed out, and probably the ignition too if possible. Problem is that she is tight on cash. Anyone have any experience with this or know someone for the job? If so, please PM me. I have no idea what’s involved (especially with the ignition) but I was hoping there was a way around going to a dealer for this. Thanks in advance!

I know you said reasonable price but most honda dealerships have a tumbler set and they can put together a new combonation of them to make a new key. Cheapest is to find a car of the same generation at the Junkyard with the key present, pull all the locks and swap them into her car.
She may go the locksmith route for the ignition as I’m pretty positive there’s no chip in the key. We’re also looking into maybe getting some sort of anti-theft device for the car.
It would be great if she could get the keys back from Mr. Dirtbag, but her purse was stolen so the odds of that happening are slim.

After giving this some more thought, I’d like to hear suggestions as far as what would be best to do in this situation. At first I thought changing the locks/ignition, but maybe a car alarm, steering wheel lock, or other anti-theft would be better?
putting an alarm on it is only going to let you know its already been busted into/stolen. If it were me, I’d have the locks re-keyed AND put a cheap alarm in it just so it beeps when the car is touched. depending on whether or not the person that snatched her purse has done this before or not…it could have been someone that just wanted the money and ditched the rest in a dumpster, or it could have been someone looking to find an address/steal her car/steal her identity
Well her purse was found! Turned up in the trash in the men’s bathroom of the building right by where she was robbed. Fortunately only the cash was taken. Anyways, this can be locked now. Things could have gone much worse so we’re all thankful that she only lost some money out of this. And before anyone says, she canceled her cards and ordered a new license immediately after this happened the same day.
put full coverage on it and leave the ignition key the same.

my reason, db still has to break the window, or jimmy it before he can try the other key in the ignition, at that point, a window is less than the deductable probabaly is, so you want him to steal it, joy ride it, crash it thru your house, for the biggest check possible.

Well for whatever reason she was not notified right away even though it was found the same day, probably because of the holiday weekend. But seeing that it was found in the building right where the incident occurred with everything in tact minus the cash, we’ll take our chances that he didn’t make copies and then return to trash the purse in the spot where he stole it. Sounds like he got what he wanted, some holiday spending cash.
You have to change the key set and get it reprogrammed to the car, If you look in CL in Rochester there is a guy selling a key set with ecu for your car so that will fix it all for cheap.
